It's a shame that organizations like Greenpeace put lots of environmentrally well meaning folks offside.

But if I can make an observation: The mainstream media are largely responsible for this negative spin that is put on much of their activities, as the media barons are of the same ilk as those corporate entities that Greenpeace are fighting against.

I belong to Greenpeace and readily admit that some of their agendas I disagree sharply with. However, it may be that we need a force diametrically opposed to the corporatists in order to temper some of their blatant pillage and plunder. Moderates are simply ignored.

That's why I support them.

But yeah, they're all bastards.
 
And if I can make a point, within green groups and organisations, issues like GE are fiercely debated. From personal experience, if you sit in a lecture run by an environmental scientist, or talk with a group of environmental scientists, they will tell you that GE foods are great, they grow in arid regions etc. etc. And they will only look at the heavily focussed data.

Then you go and listen to a lecture from a sustainable development academic (really just the theoretical side of environmental science), they will ask questions like, who is selling these GE foods and seeds? Why are they doing so? Do they undermine the supporting social systems that lead to this region being effective for food growth? And ultimately, the sustainable development practitioner will usually conclude that it is big business imposing its will and making money by destroying the system already in place.

These issues are far from cut and dry and as simple as they may seem.

It's way too easy to talk about GE food when you have plenty of food in the fridge... Try talking about it when you have starving children in a disease riddled location... No doctors, no water for miles, just hope...

GE plants can make use of infertile land that normally can't

We aren't talking about food aid though and that's the false distinction here (or lack of). Unfortunately, most US foreign aid has ridiculous conditions attached, and that's where the problem lies. No-one should be forced to take aid if it absolutely rapes the economy...

Investigating all possible contingencies is not terrorism.
 
I'm talking about Green peace being full of crap... one of the founders of green peace left for the same reasons I'm discussing... Because they are all anti capitalists at heart... I am not condoning whaling at all... but if you asked a Greeny to sign a pettition banning hydrogendioxide they'd sign it without realising that it is just water... (It has been done before) Most are clueless to facts and most just make them up... just like the Nuclear reactor thing i posted

That doesn't classify as an investigation... and I'm not saying that green peace in this situation were terrorists... I'm saying that they use terrorism groups in their benefit which isn't too far from Osama and one of his lovely video threats... I haven't seen him on television any more, he was probably axed by the media

What!? I'm saying they are scare mongering people, using possible terrorist acts to manupulate peoples thoughts and views... That is terrorising people... They told east african governments that GE food was poisoness. Millions died over this... Much worse then a car bomb

Imagine someone said that Australias water supply was contaminated with some lethal virus that you die instantly from contact with it even though it wasn't true... The country would go crazy... In africa food and water are scarce commodities and for green peace to do what it does to industries with good intentions is down right wrong...

some things like animal conservation and renewable energy programs are good but 99% of green peace is ill intentioned

It's too bad you can't get refund your donations to greenpeace because I already tried...

Oh the delicious irony. This is exactly how gu'mints attempt to manipulate public opinion.

I want a refund on my taxes.

However, it is true that nuclear facilities are vulnerable to terrorist and/or military action. In the the event of a war, guess what will be attacked first...that's right sunshine, the nuclear reactors.

In fact, this is what Israel is strongly lobbying a receptive USA over... an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Go figure.
 
Exactly... you don't need car bombs you just need to influence people into making the wrong decisions that result in millions of people dieing... Does WW2 come to mind.Hitler must have been one smooth talker... Green peace are politcal and they're pack of smooth talkers aren't they, so many people run to their defence with out knowing the facts.

I'm waiting for an attack on a nuclear facility... I bet ya I won't live to see the day... You'll notice something that I picked up on... shows like TT, 60 minutes always show docos on Chenoble admidst government Nuclear discussions... To me it's obvious that it's the coal industry doing this. I bet ya that the leaders of green peace favor these existing industries for a price...

As for Iran and isarael, their issues are not about nuclear power... It's about Israel moving in on territory 60 years ago and exiling non jews some are palestinians, you might have heard of them... Israel is screwed because they're like a cornered animal... The US can get involved but it's not gonna go away... Venezuela are allies with Iran and both hate the USA and hold a huge portion of the worlds oil... seems like no one likes americans... must be because of crappy movies like Independence day and the fact the USA always impose sanctions on other countries yet they try their best at hiding their desperate need for oil... Suddenly nuclear power seems like an insignificance now...

Anyway I don't care anymore... we're going around in circles... If you watch Penn & Tellers Bu!!**** show they have a couple of episiodes about green peace I'm sure they'll make you think twice about them...

Green Peace is a lovely concept... that's all...

Anyway damn those whalers!!!

Greens are good at raising issue and getting attention. But when it comes to actually solving the problem they just about always find some reason to oppose every possible solution except a near total shutdown of the economy.

I think it's time for the whole environment movement to come to grips with reality and actually look at both sides of the equation. If we're not going to log old growth forests then we have to have plantations. It's just not practical to say no to both of them.

Likewise if we don't want coal or nuclear then we have to accept wind farms near the coast, big dams for pumped storage and plenty of transmission lines connecting it all.

It's time for the greens to demonstate that fundamental aspect of adult behaviour - accepting responsibility for your own actions. No wind farms? No dams? No old growth logging? Then you're saying yes coal, yes nuclear and yes plantations. Accept it and make a decision as to which you prefer but saying no to all of them isn't a serious option unless the real agenda is to shut down the economy.
