Entrenching Tool
Wonderful project there GG and getting back to normal indicates you are over the flightoff of No 5 was it
Anyway, back on topic, if you could go back and give me a rough draft of conclusion of what you intended to submit to our ole pal Bob, I will see what I can do.
Proof reading and putting in unthoughtof smart bits can be one of my strong points, just verify that with the Prof.
Brought one in a box of old tools, sold it for $20.50 on eBay. Broad Arrow Stamp on the face.
Well plod, thanks mate, good to have a hound on the scent.
If you know any godbotherers or anything about godnbothering, what was the first reference in the bible/torah/koran/vayawhatchamacallit etc. to an Entrenching Tool?
Google is good, but a bit limited on matters of faith and belief.
I could flesh out one or two chapters on about 3 references.
gg
Sorry for the delay Garpal, Friday and all. My Bible is three inches thick and has 1400 pages, (The Holy Bible, Catholic Action Edition, Goodwill Publishers, Inc, Gastonia, North Caralina 1960, think they had a bit of trouble with youths over there or sumtin.) and without the modern type referencing system it took me awhile to conlude that the answer we may be looking for is not in it.
However a long time ago when I seriously thought I wanted and could become a priest, another bloke who was learning to be one, and became one, lent me a book called "General Metaphysics, by a bloke called Noonan, printed by Loyola University Press, and predates my bible as it was printed in 1957.
Sorry to be so long winded Garpal but I am on to it. The opening chapter is big on Aristotle and then discusses Ontology and its importance with metaphysics. In working on the idea of being it goes into great detail to discuss the potential of a rock. Do not be misled into thinking this is Peters rock on what he built his church, no, we are just talking about what can be got out of any rock.
Now this is very deep stuff as you move through this, as a youngster I would wake up and realise I had nodded off to sleep.
But this it is Garpal, to get to this rock we need the entrenchment tool as photographed kindly by our new pal, Johnnyg. Now just maybe if you can get time over the weekend you may be able to put these clues together and you just may have something for you to get right on track to loyaly help our ole pal Kev.
cheers explod
Firstly, you need to call it an ET Tool. Like an ATM is an ATM Machine, etc.
Never seen one like that posted above. How do you fold that up and slide it into your pack?

. How do you fold that up and slide it into your pack?
Not to mention it looks like it weighs a tonne.
Oh how glad I am that the days of digging pits are long gone... (for me anyway)
May I ask any ASF members with a knowledge of the Entrenching Tool to post on this essential piece of Military Equipment.
During the Hawke years I managed to squirrel a grant for $10,000 to write a History of the Entrenching Tool. It was before ole Bob went off the turps and I managed to catch him in a weak moment. I got the grant from some Yartz Department.
Unfortunately, yesterday, ole Kev07 barked an order to his flunkies to begin preparation for Anzac Day 2010, and some fool found my application and is demanding a copy from me of said tome as a centrepiece for Rudd's day.
I omitted to write it. The book that is.
I still have just under 2 months to write it and get it published.
Any help would be appreciated.
gg
Now Garpal, it seems, reading between your lines if I may for a moment, that Rudd may be concerned about the un-entrenched.
The new leader of the opposition we know would be able to call experts on entrenching and of course many of his followers would be from dogma already well entrenched.
Not wanting to steer you boat mind, but just may help to illuminate the issue a bit more.
Their not all that big and heavy, pretty light actually. That style (non folding) I assume were from the 1st World War as this one was ---> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Old-WW1-Aust...ViewItemQQptZAU_Militaria?hash=item414d213234 I guess with everything technology advances and designs improve which would of then led to the folding design ones, and then the folding design ones with retractable handles.

Yes, plod, drawing lines in the sand, digging a trench and envisioning a moat are all worthy pursuits for a body in possession of an entrenching tool.
