May I ask any ASF members with a knowledge of the Entrenching Tool to post on this essential piece of Military Equipment.

During the Hawke years I managed to squirrel a grant for $10,000 to write a History of the Entrenching Tool. It was before ole Bob went off the turps and I managed to catch him in a weak moment. I got the grant from some Yartz Department.

Unfortunately, yesterday, ole Kev07 barked an order to his flunkies to begin preparation for Anzac Day 2010, and some fool found my application and is demanding a copy from me of said tome as a centrepiece for Rudd's day.

I omitted to write it. The book that is.

I still have just under 2 months to write it and get it published.

Any help would be appreciated.

Entrenching Tool

Wonderful project there GG and getting back to normal indicates you are over the flightoff of No 5 was it

Anyway, back on topic, if you could go back and give me a rough draft of conclusion of what you intended to submit to our ole pal Bob, I will see what I can do.

Proof reading and putting in unthoughtof smart bits can be one of my strong points, just verify that with the Prof.

Well plod, thanks mate, good to have a hound on the scent.

If you know any godbotherers or anything about godnbothering, what was the first reference in the bible/torah/koran/vayawhatchamacallit etc. to an Entrenching Tool?

Google is good, but a bit limited on matters of faith and belief.

I could flesh out one or two chapters on about 3 references.

Brought one in a box of old tools, sold it for $20.50 on eBay. Broad Arrow Stamp on the face.

Yep, looks close to the mark, we will have to check back with GG and getting a double open ended handle for our Kev could be a problem. But a good effort johnnyg, Friday and all.

Porbably good you unloaded that with that strange stamp on it. Could be related to those funny passports which has got Kev's mob concerned at the moment. And on that GG, this could be related to that Godbother''ers thingo you put me onto. Oh, and not finished with the investigation on that ole pal, maybe after a coupla beers.

Sorry for the delay Garpal, Friday and all. My Bible is three inches thick and has 1400 pages, (The Holy Bible, Catholic Action Edition, Goodwill Publishers, Inc, Gastonia, North Caralina 1960, think they had a bit of trouble with youths over there or sumtin.) and without the modern type referencing system it took me awhile to conlude that the answer we may be looking for is not in it.

However a long time ago when I seriously thought I wanted and could become a priest, another bloke who was learning to be one, and became one, lent me a book called "General Metaphysics, by a bloke called Noonan, printed by Loyola University Press, and predates my bible as it was printed in 1957.

Sorry to be so long winded Garpal but I am on to it. The opening chapter is big on Aristotle and then discusses Ontology and its importance with metaphysics. In working on the idea of being it goes into great detail to discuss the potential of a rock. Do not be misled into thinking this is Peters rock on what he built his church, no, we are just talking about what can be got out of any rock.

Now this is very deep stuff as you move through this, as a youngster I would wake up and realise I had nodded off to sleep.

But this it is Garpal, to get to this rock we need the entrenchment tool as photographed kindly by our new pal, Johnnyg. Now just maybe if you can get time over the weekend you may be able to put these clues together and you just may have something for you to get right on track to loyaly help our ole pal Kev.

cheers explod

Firstly, you need to call it an ET Tool. Like an ATM is an ATM Machine, etc.

Never seen one like that posted above. How do you fold that up and slide it into your pack?

Thanks plod,

You've given me a good title for the first chapter.

Under this Rock I will wield my ET.

ET Tool !!

ATM Machine.

What low English. Kennas, we will hunt you back to the ranks.

The Romans from my "research" on Google were the first to carry an ET.

A picture taken on an old camera in Athens when Berlusconius was a boy.

Kev07's Choir of Angels and Misfits have been this morning on to me again about the "book". I gather its going to be central to his re-election strategy. They have a suit and underdaks which makes him look like a "bold" Roman soldier, wielding an ET.

Now Garpal, it seems, reading between your lines if I may for a moment, that Rudd may be concerned about the un-entrenched.

The new leader of the opposition we know would be able to call experts on entrenching and of course many of his followers would be from dogma already well entrenched.

Not wanting to steer you boat mind, but just may help to illuminate the issue a bit more.

Not to mention it looks like it weighs a tonne.

Oh how glad I am that the days of digging pits are long gone... (for me anyway)

Their not all that big and heavy, pretty light actually. That style (non folding) I assume were from the 1st World War as this one was ---> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Old-WW1-Aust...ViewItemQQptZAU_Militaria?hash=item414d213234 I guess with everything technology advances and designs improve which would of then led to the folding design ones, and then the folding design ones with retractable handles.

These threads tend to meander away from the dilemma posed by the starting poster, so an update on my progress with Kev07's staff.

I received some urgent texts this afternoon asking me where the f***ing book was.

An explanation that it was out of print ( which is not a lie, its just never been in print), but that I knew where I could lay my hands on some copies was met with a torrent of abuse, copied to STD, Staff PM's Department I presume.

I am now on the list of texts and twits from a mob of people with some odd tastes in evening wear.

They are off to some "Parade" tonight. All very mysterious.

Now Garpal, it seems, reading between your lines if I may for a moment, that Rudd may be concerned about the un-entrenched.

Yes, plod, drawing lines in the sand, digging a trench and envisioning a moat are all worthy pursuits for a body in possession of an entrenching tool.

I do appreciate your reply but there are ****loads of references to the ET from the WW1. I will need this info for the middle and end of the book. I'm still at the beginning.

Is there anyone with information on the ET during the "Dark Ages", the Crusades, the American Revolution ( Bob Carr is running a private email correspondence with me on this), or from the Enlightenment.

Many thanks

I guess with everything technology advances and designs improve which would of then led to the folding design ones, and then the folding design ones with retractable handles.

So with retractible handles we can untrench which will restore Garpals file, like water finds its own level, the file becomes flat and recognisable once more.

.

Yes, plod, drawing lines in the sand, digging a trench and envisioning a moat are all worthy pursuits for a body in possession of an entrenching tool.

Not to mention troop discipline, On one occasion I was on hand to witness a group of engineers with the mis fortune of having to dig in a field fortification will nothing but ET's, after about half an hour of solid digging where even the troop SGT had his shirt of digging a young Jubey sapper stopped for a smoke.

Having seen him stop while the sgt and cpl were still digging a senior sapper told him to pick up his et and keep digging, the young sapper said he would when he finished his smoke, within 10secs the young sapper was on the ground having just been knee capped by the senior dig, Nothing more was said.

Is there any evidence that the entrenching tool was used , or is used in the Terror War against the West by Islamists?

For all the newsfeed of robed gentlemen in Afghanistan and Pakistan going about their business of war, I am yet to be convinced that any were carrying an ET.

Is the ground too hard?

Can't they dig?

gg

Don't forget to iron your DCPU uniform gg.

lol

ok you win.

I can find no evidence however of the use of the ET Tool in this or the first Caliphate.

The book is finished and I will send it to Rudd's office in pdf format.

All that for $10,000.

I would have been better off electrifying a few grannies roofs before ole Kev07 put an end to the scam.
