surf websites of the companies in your field of choice....

or in my case hope you have a well recognised course where employers pick you off early in your degree

I wouldve thought Commerce (Finance) @ University of Melb wouldve been in that elite grouping of courses where i would get picked off, but alas i havent been picked yet.

Done the surfing website thing, done seek/mycareer etc

Seems like alot of places just dont want a finance major....

Offer now extended to manual labour.

I need money to live.....

I have a friend and she works as a stevedore, wharfie) in Perth. She says that most of the guys doing the work are students doing part time work. They work shifts but the money is really good.....You need to be able to drive a truck..I think it is a "B' class license...

The company is called " DP world" a Dubai based company. They have operations all over Austra,la

No offence mate, but you need them, not the other way around.
Uusally employers in the Commerce field - one of the qualities they want is for you to show "initiative". You sitting on your a$$ inviting employers to you certainly does not show it, even if your intentions are good.

Commerce students --- I was one ---there is a production line of them coming out of UNSW, USYD, Macqaurie Uni and UTS here in NSW. Nothing elite about us. I don't see people begging for our services.

I am not sure what year you are in your studies --- but you should do some bar work and enjoy the life. Try out for vacation work at the big 4 accounting firms or Macquarie and Goldman Sachs. Thing is if you nail these positions you will be offered full time position which will be waiting for you when you graduate.

Good Luck

I'd say send me a resume, but the commute from Melbourne to Brisbane would suck.

Sir O.

Even though commerce at Melbourne Uni has high entry requirements (ENTER of 95 needed) that's no reason to think highly of yourself. You need to start acting like a (wage) slave and show some humility. Save as much as possible and buy shares and as income from dividends rises against income from labor, you become less and less of a slave.

I suggest volunteering for a charitable organization because this will look good on your resume. You can also try tutoring for refugees. Go to your university's career advice area (Careers and Employment) and they can offer you career consultants that you can book interviews with.

You're competing against double degree Com grads. Eg. BComLLB or BComSci.
Unless you can show you have more initiative and experience than them, it'll be hard to get foot in door... especially in the current environment.
Good luck.

Maybe try the uni career service? I got all my casual work this way. If you don't mind manual work, try a job agent, my friends have gotten well paid (and very tiring) job that way. Keep checking seek and mycareer too.

Good luck

What exactly are you after?

Get a list of every potential company you want. there are dozens here in melbourne. Call them & email them. Once. and then again months later. I'm sure someone will take you. Show them what you got going for you apart from study at prestigious institution.

If your interested in trading then have you considered applying to crown?

unfortunately it is the closest we have to open outcry here but you just missed their last dealer intake. They have another one in 6 months should you still be looking for something. Much better than shuffling paper and I'm sure you'll learn more useful stuff for your trading.

hope this helps
goodluck
