Egypt Burns, US Administration Fiddles

Let's have a bit of empathy here people. Imagine if 20% of your population were starving
and 30% of your recent graduates had no jobs. (Oops starting to sound like Australia.)

Obama's message "Walk like an Egyptian."

Mubarak has reportedly undertaken to stand down later this year, wanting to stay on for a stable transition. :cautious:

The protesters say this Friday.

The protesters have him by the b@!!s now, he knows it, they know it.

The question is where will he go? He will most likely want some sort of safe haven to 'retire' to.

Despite the beat up Press headlines I think this 'threat' to the financial and oil stability of the world is grossly over stated and the markets will phizz back to normal a-la- after North Korea, fairly quickly.

Following in the footsteps of the Shah Of Iran, he will probably seek safe haven for himself, his entourage and his wealth in the USA.

gg When you stub your toe in the shower do u blame the US?

Maybe if a bunch of Egyptains want democracy its an issue for themselves to sort out.

Of course if Egypt hadn't had peace with Israel or US coopoeration Mubarak would more likely be in a safer position like the anti-US despots Gaddafi, Assad & of course Ayatollah.
They had the sense to ban things like internet and make it undesirable for Western tourists to influence repressed locals.

Jordan will be interesting as 70% of its population are Palestinians, were an uprising to occur the dynamics of the Israeli-Arab conflict would change with the Palestinians suddenly having a fully fledged country in dispute with Israel.

If the shower stall had been made by the Obama administration, and the design was such, that my stubbing my toe was inevitable, the answer is a resounding yes.

Thus with Egypt. Obama has no nuts, not even Knobby's.

the port workers are now striking, so the suez will slow down

Khaled Said was murdered in cold blood. this youtube footage is only to be viewed imho if your over 18 yrs old and also if you dont want to see anything thats uncomfortable, like a murder, then i insist you do not view it

2:22 in is when this poor soul leaves this planet. very sad

i understand some media is picking up the story.. but really, is a life worth anything?

imho with the brutality shown here the chances of a fix is pretty slim. the people are reluctant to give the streets back right now, and of course the police are more than prepared to murder anyone they wish

some say the unrest like this will spread globally as more and more cannot afford to live like they are. food is a huge equation in the poorer countries, and unrest and food riots are increasing, the desire to change things for the better is coming at a huge cost in eqypt. these are out fellow human beings, surely we can see across borders and recognise a human, a fellow human?

again, do not view if your unable to deal with the sight of a human being murdered

I noticed quite a few women among the thousands of demonstrators in Egyptian streets. I hope for the sake of all Egyptian women that the elections result in a secular government.

This is highly unlikely. The Moslem Brotherhood is well organised and if they win a majority in the election Sharia law will be instituted. If that happens the women may be out of the frying pan and into the fire.

But now? Since Big Oil stamped their influence & authority all over the place, (especially since GW1) Egypt has now become a central & CRUCIAL oil state. Political stability there is now essential if world oil prices are themselves to remain stable.

Oil is a key in this region, sure, but we are all much more interconnected now.

What the Arabian people need is a job.

Agree.

I find Arab women endlessly fascinating and delightful with whom to engage, on an intellectual and physical level.

Arab men are generally as Freud would say "stuck".

The Brotherhood are a mob of "stuck".

a bit later on ...

with Gaza , and now them Houthis, playing a new game, and another strongfellah in Cairo, the Egyptians would be nervous again. And annoyed at the revenue loss...

Indeed @Dona Ferentes for some context.

I imagine it would be an ideal time for the Houthis and the Hekawis to attack innocent tourists and their running dogs upon camels at this present time near the Pyramids.

As a repeat survivor of shady people in sunny climes I am in little doubt the tourist industry in Egypt, another major contributor to their treasury, is silent the clip clop of a welcome dromedary and its attendant reasonable owner.

These places really do need a strongman to survive rather than the meek of this earth. Egypt and the surrounding Arab nations, blessed with peace and the whiff of eunuchoid democracy and regocracy need to stamp their stake in the gathering storm that is Palestine, Israel, Syria and Lebanon.

I had considered a trip once the plague passed to Persia to visit Esfahan, Yazd and Tabriz but will have to await Peace, delivered by the Bronze Loon once Sleepy Joe Biden is ousted.

If he is not too late. The Democrats in power do seem to leave a million or ten dead in their wake.
