Dog Food and Canned Soup

The markets aren't that bad are they?

Having visited both dog food and soup / vegetable factories many years ago my impression was that the pet food factory was very clean and more modern when compared to the human food cannery - but you would want to choose the right factory / brand. Indeed the quality assurance of tuna canning in the early 80's left a lot to be desired with no seam checking systems in place.

I am sure that human food canning practices have improved since the early 80's.

As a complete diet if you are really down on your luck I'd go petfood, but I would be pretty selective in terms of brand. Avoid cans altogether and go for porridge, fresh fruit & veges, lentils, rice, soy etc - you can eat much cheaper & better than canned food.

fresh fruit and veg too expensive, maybe frozen ones, like black and white, and rice.

You gotta look at what you get for the money. Its not just a short term fix...its your health and your life. I get the impression we're so hung up on getting ahead in Aust we sacrifice in the form of packet noodles and baked beans (or dog food, wtf!??!) so we can get that investment property, share portfolio, <fill-blank-alpha-generator-here>.

I can say this, I spend an excruciating amount of money at the supermarket on food due to health concerns (food alleragies force me and significant other to buy fresh, natural and basic foods). We can spend $100 AUD and hold a 2-3 shopping bags of food. Shocking to most people...but after you get in the habit the 6-pack of 2 litre coke, bulk packs of chips and sickly, sugary what-nots that you see at the register before you becomes much more disgusting than the idea of spending more on something that is good for you.

When I was all of 11 yrs old I asked my mother why there was dog food mixed in with cooked rice warming up in the microwave. She responded that times were tough and couldn't buy groceries for a while.

I was terrified of it and reacted by dictating that I was NOT going to eat it. She played on the idea for what seemed an eternity before dishing it out on dinner plates, walking past the dinner table and setting it in front of the eagerly awaiting dogs.

Talking about getting worried. Was not at all happy.

When I was about 6 I tried our cats tinned food. After knowing how it tasted it always used to amaze me how they'd seem to look forward to it so much.

I think I'd be going the tinned soup and buy a fishing line.
