Dean Jones- Drops Us Down the Order

You know Richkid,
I find all this hoopla so offensive, one big mouth says something mildly objectinable and article after article is written about how it all is.
The ABC airs a program where a 16 yr old girl is killed because her religion was used to justify it,and nothing but silence.Women die at the hands of objectional men every day.Yet an objectional man says one word and he is hung to dry. Why?

If its about being seen to be doing the right thing, why is defending women not the right thing to be doing as a society?

isnt this the country that not to long ago had apathied, even a racist would cringe at what went on in sth africa then.

I saw that program. It was just awful and disgusting.

But what we can we do? It is Iran we are talking about and the religion is Islam. I have personal experience of immediate relatives going out with men of that religion, in both cases ending badly for the women but what can we do when people don't share our values?

We can only do our best to ensure we educate our children and warn and defend the women of Australia's rights and that includes the Muslim women!

It is only a percentage, and there is a percentage of males in general society that also act simarly.

I have no time for people who suggest that Muslims should be allowed to practice Sharia Law in their own communities. They have to obey the laws of this country which provides protection to women.

At least with Dean Jones, we can easily discuss what a idiot he has been and semingly will always be.

Good point.

Just wait a generation or two when natural law of rabbit like multiplication, will give the numbers to democratically impose whatever.

After all if majority is right, matter of time.

Knobby, for a start we should expect that our children be given the right education at school. My children go to a Catholic school, every year they visit different places of worship, every year the girls are told to go dressed modestly,my problem with this is that I think our girls dress modestly anyway, so why the extra modesty warning, also they are told to cover their hair. You can search the internet until the cows come home and you will not find anyone who actually explains that covering ones hair or body is actually required by islam,it is a cultural way to behave, so why the misinformation I ask?By the way this had me labelled a racist, but thas another story.

In fact speaking to muslims ,the everyday kind, they will tell you that the hijab is worn by people who come from the mountains, this infers uneducated people.

Althought commenting on Dean Jones must be a hell of a lot safer than commenting on a religion that required so many egg shells,I still don`t understand why our media actually ignores the many shortfalls associated with this religion, unless of course its bicause the biggest number of victims is women

In a meantime we started to call X-mass festive season, gradually stop playing or singing carols, don’t serve pork and the list goes on.

By the time we wake up, we will be wearing funny dresses and listen to megaphone prayers every hour.

From what I know at least one suburb in Sydney does it already, unless it just happened by chance when I passed by.

I have no problems at all with Jones being dismissed for his racist comments. I thought Australia was a democratic nation, that people have the right to worship for whom they want!

It isnt the muslim people who are telling us not to celebrate Christmas in the 'traditional' style - anyone ever visted Singapore during Christmas - the decorations put ours to shame, and Singapore is a total ethnic mix with many many Muslims (Malaysia being two minutes down the road and over the bridge!). Japan as well! This is just an excuse trotted out every year by people who just cant be bothered putting the decorations up, or who have no idea what other religions think!

And because there are injustices in many countries, does that mean we should follow suit and ignore those that seem minor in comparison? because that is where it all starts!

I dislike many of the traditional rituals of 'mainstream Australia' religions but that doesnt give me the right to comment on them here.

Prospector,
you are right,we can worship whoever we want, and my experience of muslims is also one of live and let live.
However when it comes to the media, their representation of muslims in general seems to be one where even the worst aspect of being muslim is acceptable, for me that bloody hijab is such a confronting issue,I mean if a real muslim tells you that wearing one means that you are backward and not required why are journalists falling over backwards telling us that its part of their religion, why is it being taught at school.
I`ve read even tourism articles where female mutilation was presented in such a fun way that you never would`ve associated it with a disabling operation on women.

The UN ambassador for women, even gave an interview where she despaired that violence against women was on the increase and unfortunately it seemed that people were letting it get worse using excuses such as it being part of their culture and religion.

Why do we accept this loss of freedom of other women based on religion when in fact its purely based on the oppresion of women, that girl was hung because someone wanted to keep her quiet regarding the sexual abuse that she suffered yet it was dressed as a religious issue, but not one media outlet even gave it a second glance yet even today Dean Jones is on the front cover of the Herald sun.

i think we all know the media do anything for a good story...
including villyfying entire races and religions...

they are not interested in the real issues.... just selling newspapers / TV!

they are the biggest curse to society at this point in time.

Yes but they are supporting, morons like keysar trad, and the idiots he translates for. This stupidity of treating women like second class citizens for their own good is getting a foothold ,before september 11 we never saw women covered from head to foot in our streets now they are a common sight.I remember the kuffufle about afganistan forcing women to cover up and keeping them at home and how that was an abuse of their human rights, now its become part of their religion and culture, why?,why is our media suporting this oppresion is it because its biggest victims are women,?If we are to accept that Dean Jones is an idiot why didn`t the same journalist devote the same amount of time telling us how this young girl suffered and died in the name of islam. Why isn`t her death an outrage on the same level as being called a terorrist.

The media as i said before are not interested in womens rights, muslims, christians, anything... they simply have to sell stories.... if womens right sell stories, they'll be your best friend...

as for the reason you see more women covered up now... sept 11 and the subsequent response by the US, esp in Iraq, has emboldened the shiite sect of Islam, traditionally the more conservative cultural group.

Shiites dominate Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq (now that democracy has been installed) and Syria...

Do you know Iraq under Saddam Hussien was, in Arabic terms, a modern, secular society.... My dad visited Iraq in the 80's many times for work... women wore western clothes, there were many churches... freedom of religion was practised.... however, the shiite sect was oppressed... and for very good reason!

The Shiite sect of Islam is the one that preaches hatred of other religions and the full garb for women...

the reason you are seeing more women covered up is that this sect now has the upper hand....!

Umm what has most of the comments in this forum got to do with Dean Jones being sacked... umm nothing.

Back to the topic... Dean JOnes deserved to be sacked, his comments were disgraceful. Totally unappropriate and well... disgusting. He was an idiot when i played club cricket against him, and looks like he is still an idiot. I am sorry but anyone that supports what Jones did, is lower than low.

And guys fyi, travel to MOST Mulsim countries (ie Asian) and the woman are treated as equals. Yes there are some extremist muslim countries, but the majority are not. but hey I guess most of you belive everything John Howard says is true (hehe)

PS. This is from someone that thinks political correctness has gone too far.

sorry, your right, back on topic... Dean Jones is a tool!

and your also right, what we see on the TV is the once again media pigeon holiing / type casting of all muslims.... take the oppurtunity to meet a few in person... certainly the majority (95%) ain't as bad as they are portrayed.

Thanks to Bush and Co tho... the 5% are being given undue power and influence... But then again, someone has to be a villian, otherwise how is the US going to sell its weapons!

reminds me of the Y2K issue in the IT world... created a lot of jobs for many IT people... what a storm in a tea cup that was!

Hey I made alot of money providing advice on Y2K, so I wont have anyone bad mouthing it.

Its amazing though how many countries did nothing to protect themselves from Y2K and their economies didnt collapse.

i was too young to take advantage of the Y2K mania unfortunately...

But, me, my brother, few of our mates are mainly employed thanks to federal funds to improve security, communications, etc thanks to the threat of terrorism...

In Adelaide... !!!!

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

I think many people follow this creed:

"God grant me the strength to change the things I can,

the serenity to accept the things I cannot

and the wisdom to know the difference."

Most of us are no less repulsed than you. I guarantee it!

What I was trying to achieve by bringing up the young girl and the deafening silence is ,exactly that.
Jones says something stupid ,makes front page all over the world including Australia, yet 2 yrs after the fact we learn that a young girl is murdered by her country under the guise of religion and nothing. And we only learn of her death because good people wanted the story told.Unfortunately the real muslims in real muslims countries who are fighting to be heard will never be heard by the looks of it becasue they are women, and that is something our teachers politicians communities leaders political correct advocates should all hang their head in shame. The only conclusion I can draw from this silence and from this acceptance is that violence against women is acceptable and will be here to stay, either under a cultural and/or religious banner, something that should shame all the silence keepers and their advocates.

Wayne,you forgot to add,
And the strenght to hide the bodies of those who get in my way.
