America can appear to be a dystopian movie these days mixing Batman, Spiderman, the Handmaids Tale and Game of Thrones.
It can get confusing.
Thanos, I mean right wing centi-billionaire Elon Musk was about the host the Penguin, I mean Ron De Santis, currently governor of Gilead - I mean Florida - to let the latter announce his candidacy for King of Westeros - I mean president of the US - live on a video feed devised to hijack the broadcast of every TV channel in the world, I mean on Twitter.
But then the illusion burst when it didn't work. Too many minions were let go. (not quite burst)
Anyway this is the guy that some really wealthy and powerful Republicans are backing including Jonah Jameson er I mean Rupert Murdoch though realising Trump would probably win the nomination.
His policies in Florida have been harsh and unnecessarily cruel to gays, trans people, immigrants and pregnant women (he signed into law a ban on abortion after 6 weeks). But it is the ultimate tactical move to get the Maga on side and be the back up man of choice should Trump fall over.
You will notice that, beneath the tough talk, political cruelty and clumsy positioning - here is a guy who won't stand up to Vladamir Putin or Donald Trump, and bases a presidential campaign almost entirely on wishing.
It's not really what you'd expect from the party that was once the party of Ronald Reagan, but that is the state the Republicans have got themselves into these days.
(thanks to Bill Wyman article part used )
