I have decided I will probably go with Amibroker and Premiumdata.

All up it will cost:

AB - $199 for S or $279 for P... I am ssuming this is in the US but with the dollar the AU cost will be pretty much the same :D

PD - $300 p.a. for EOD ASX data and $90 for historical ASX data.

Total - $589 or $669

my questions are:

1 - I checked the difference between standard and pro but wasnt familiar with some of the differences... I am only trading as EOD so would i only require the standard version? can you upgrade to premium later on or would you need to buy it outright again?

2 - do you have to pay for upgrades to the software?

You'd only need standard version for EOD. I have used standard for intra-day trading in the past, but not too sure about live streaming data. You get about 4 free major upgrades before paying to update which will last you many years most likely. You can do various things with data if you want it free. Have a search of the forums, someone has probably detailed it before. Takes a bit of work setting up.

Im assuming i don't need Amiquote if i am going to be downloading the data from somewhere else like premiumdata or commsec or even yahoo...???

what about AFL code wizard...?

3 - also, can i get my data for amibroker from commsec instead of premiumdata?

There are free sources for data, but I wouldn't really recommend them, as would be a lot more work. PremiumData integrates well with Amibroker, organising securities by sector/industry, and sets up many useful watchlists for you. PremiumData also automatically adjusts data for code changes & delistings, which would be a bit of a pain if you had to do it manually.

Look: you've downloaded AB 5.3 right? Well go to the Analysis drop down menu, and there it is at the bottom of the list. Open it, read it.
