My Internet connection has been out for a couple of days. I have a mobile Broadband modem. After a bit of mucking around I find I can use my mobile phone as wifi "hotspot".

Is there any need for a separate wifi modem ?

Nonsense aside, I assume you have contacted your internet provider and told them to fix it. You're paying for a service they are not providing it seems.

I had an internet outage and the tech found a fault at the node. It was fixed within two days of me raising the matter. Slightly inconvenient for me but bearable.

Yes I've contacted them. They said it was a fault at their end and may take a week to fix.

I'm just wondering about the pros and cons of a dedicated internet connection vs a mobile phone hotspot. Maybe there are performance or cost issues with a phone hotspot that I'm not aware of.

I don't know the ins and outs about the aspect I have highlighted or even if it is possible.

If it is, I think it would depend on (a) how often it happens and (b) your concerns if any personal emergency arose during any intent outage

I use the phone hotspot all the time.
