Just a few random thoughts fo mine.

Talking of small and mid cap comanies, are their manager delusional or just apathetic?

That is to say, do they honestly think that their company will be the one that makes it to the big league and that they are different to everyone else (delusional)

OR

Do they know that they probably wont actually get anywhere so are happy just pretending they care and that they are trying in order to collect their salaries? (apathetic)

Obviously each manager is different im just wondering what other members think

Aim low, and that's all you'll get? - Perhaps it's just a case of needing to think big, in order to have even the slightest chance of making it big?

I reckon it's largely apathy. There's been a lot of money floating about chasing relatively few assets for far too long. In that sense, it was a sellers market - easy to attract capital.

Soon these companies' capital will dwindle and the dead wood won't be able to raise anymore. Buying a tenement BHP explored and discarded in the 1970s with seed capital from your (royal perth) yacht club mates and then selling $10-20m of paper against hopes and dreams (to pay your wages, make some money for your broker mates and to meet the minimum exploration obligations on the tenement) is no longer a viable business strategy.
