I was going to transfer to hsbc because you can easily link 4%+ interest account to your trading (I think).

Then I realised I would loose commsec protrader which is cheap for its functionality. Do any other discount brokers have an equivalent for protrader?

The March 2005 ed of Shares Mag had a special on online brokers, good for reviews, the Shares mag website might also have a comparison table.

I'm also looking at registering with CFD providers just to get their free trading tools and data- haven't got around to it yet though but IG Markets might be good.

Other providers have various levels of access (eg Etrade) so you can get the protrader equivalent (check that, just from memory).

Webiress (equivalent to protrader) is available through HSBC...or least it used to be.

Thanks, both hsbc and etrade have it. I'll ditch comsec at end of fin year. My initial upfront margin interest was $6k, but I didn't realise they would charge extra $10 /margin loan transaction. Adds another $2k to my bill. 7.2% -> 9.6% effective interest rate.
