Commsec and international telegraphic transfer

Hi,

Has anyone tried making a telegraphic transfer (wire transfer) from overseas to either a CommSec Cash Account or CommSec Investment Account (maybe using the CBA SWIFT code which is CTBAAU2S)?

The person I talked to said that it's not possible.
But I was also told that I couldn't transfer money directly to the CommSec Investment Account (from another Australian bank account) and clearly this was wrong.

Has anyone actually tried it?

works for me from IB to cash account. cant remember swift code tho i phoned comsec for it.
i was also of the understanding that only the cash account can be used for 3rd party deposits although admittedly i havent tried depositing directly to the inv acc...

weird... I just called up CommSec again... was advised that it's not possible to receive money from outside Australia and there's no SWIFT code for CommSec accounts.

Are you sure your accounts are CommSec Cash Account or CommSec Investment Account (instead of CDIA - Commonwealth Direct Investment Account)? Because CDIA is handled by CBA and that one can indeed receive money from overseas.

Also, is IB Interactive Brokers? I've never used them before... so they transfer the money directly from overseas and not through an Australian agent? Usually you can tell if the money comes from overseas by looking at the amount... if the amount showing up at CommSec is $10-$20 less than what you transferred, it's probably from overseas. If it's exactly the same then most likely it's not.

i used CTBAAU2S however IB have a bank acc setup in oz so id say the funds arent actually coming from overseas even though they require a swift code. its likely it isnt possible like theyre telling you
