Well I reckon it's pathetic that they didn't play God Save the Queen.

Shows we've still got a lot of growing up to do.

And I support us becoming a republic, and I don't like being tied to the British apron strings.

Sexist or not, those Aussie women swimmers are sooooooo sexy. And the epitomy of a 'team'.

They did in fact play "God Save the Queen". As was mentioned earlier in this thread, Dame Kiri te Kanawa sang "Happy Birthday to You" and this flowed flawlessly into "God Save The Queen". It was brief but beautifully done by Dame Kiri.

Really? I reckon they look a bit butch too me, seem to recall the Chinese swimmers looked very similiar some years back.

and today someone decides to take some notables on a tour in a car of the road cycling track, not realising that maybe the road races have started already.

Several competitors’ gone walkabout too.

I wander if we can place bets if or how many of them Police will find and when?

the team that went walk about now (sierra leone) was on watch alert coz 70% of their team disappeared at the Manchester games - someone must have been keeping a real close eye on them.....not

Good morning everyone :)

Although Commonwealth Games have never really inspired me to any great extent (much prefer the Olympics with all nations competing) what a sensational 11 days it's been here in Melbourne :)

No wonder Melbourne was voted by the EIU as the most liveable city in the world for the 2nd year in a row in 2004 :) as per http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/02/06/1075854028808.html

And now we have the Grand Prix starting on Thursday :D - looking forward to Sunday before heading away for a week next Monday.

cheers

I agree 100% Bullmarket!

What a show we put on to the world!

Even Johnny Howard said we were better then Sydney at this sort of thing.

Melbourne can truly act like a "community" when we want to!

yes, totally agree with you - and without wishing to start a flood of posts driven by the Melb/Syd rivalry, suffice to say that for me there is no better city in Australia than Melbourne where I would prefer to live :)

Ballerina's in AFL colours - oh come on, give us a break :screwy:

Hi Prospector

.....do you think the ballerina's were too much? I did. What they should have done for the closing ceremony was play the opening game of Round 1 AFL 2006.

Can't you picture it? Collingwood vs Essendon. Beautiful autumn night - in front of 80,000 people.

Only downside would be that the atmosphere wouldn't have been as good, the crowd would have been less and what would we have done on ANZAC day?

Hope they hurry up and clear all the crap off the G and have it looking good for the 25 April! Carn the Don's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
