I never commented on their intelligence, I commented on their lifestyle and attitude to politics, power, life and work.

They might think they are screwed, or they might also think that they can get a redistribution of wealth.

They are not screwed at all. The "knobs" of this world are completely beholden to propaganda and narrative and not looking at the data.

Perhaps the island nations "believe" they are screwed, who knows? If so, then perhaps we could question their intelligence. Nevertheless politics trumps truth and data and the political imperatives dictate that the narrative is perpetuated.
 
Island nations are a long way from being screwed.
All of these Pacific nations were in existence for long before white people came to the pacific.
They survived without fossil fuels, electricity, telephones and the internet, hospitals and medical centres, TV, Macdonalds, and the only transport they had was their feet or canoes.
their homes were thatched by coconut branches, and could be erected within a day.
Everything they consumed came from their islands, nothing imported except for the occasional barter with passing sea craft.
Their protein came mainly from caught fish as they needed them, harvested yams as they were required, had seasonal supplies of fruits nuts and berries.
They would still have the knowledge to go back to that subsistence living should they have to.
Western nations on the other hand would be screwed.
So many western society members lack the resilience to be able to even build a rudimentary shelter, much less be able to live of the land.

Abstract
​
The global mean surface temperature is widely studied to monitor climate change. A current debate centers around whether there has been a recent (post-1970s) surge/acceleration in the warming rate. Here we investigate whether an acceleration in the warming rate is detectable from a statistical perspective. We use changepoint models, which are statistical techniques specifically designed for identifying structural changes in time series. Four global mean surface temperature records over 1850–2023 are scrutinized within. Our results show limited evidence for a warming surge; in most surface temperature time series, no change in the warming rate beyond the 1970s is detected despite the breaking record temperatures observed in 2023. As such, we estimate the minimum changes in the warming trend required for a surge to be detectable. Across all datasets, an increase of at least 55% is needed for a warming surge to be detectable at the present time.​

 

Indeed.. Be interesting to see how they can do this underwater. That is the Climate Change issue they are most concerned about - rising sea levels on already low lying islands.

I agree with you about the historical capacity of these islands to survive. And I agree that Western society will also have some serious thinking about increases in sea levels as oceans warm and expand and ice caps melt at a rapidly increasing rate.

Are you talking about Pacific Islanders or Floridians ? I think there will be far more of the latter needing to paddle their canoes elsewhere.
And as you rightly point out the Floridians have only been there comparatively recently. Just a couple of hundred years since 1821

You could cut the funding like the Coalition did and let China take over, I am sure the Chinese building port facilities big enough for arm forces is just being friendly.

Just think all those Chinese security personal will help keep the locals in line saving us a moza.
