China and The West: Political Systems Compared and Contrasted

You're on a losing argument if you want to defend Epoch Times... sorry poz. Its a Falun Gong front and as previously stated, is the cult equivalent of Scientology. The ABC did a series of programs under "Background Briefing".

Er well, they did defend Australia during WW2.

What has China done for us apart from buy stuff from us that they actually need ?
America defended China during WW2 and fought alongside them (both Mao and the Nationals) against Japan.

So where do you stand on the concept of democracy vs totalitarianism ?
OK. In the US (democracy) they have to incentivize and cajole people to get out to vote (on a weekday, during working hours). Many of the States are rigged by jerrymanders (remember good old Joh B-P in QLD?) and at the end of the day, less than 50% actually cast a vote. In Australia the parry branches are all stacked by HO and they choose who represents the party in the electorates. China actually calls itself a representative democracy... which is a bit of a stretch, but on the other hand, Labor regards Australia as a democratic socialist country. Bottom line.... those terms are pretty well meaningless in reality.

My friend in China was made to dance for the CCP celebrations the other day. She said that the official made them stay and "dance harder for your country". The people think it's stupid. But it's either that, or wear the consequences.

Far off what China is doing. Yeah there is corruption in US/Aus. But if the people complained about Xi like they did Trump they would disappear.
We have a mixed senate that sorts out the imbalance of the house.

rob, I think you just have to trust that the Aus spooks know what they are doing when they say No to Huawei. Spyware can be embedded in hardware as well, just have a read of the US attack on Iran with the stex virus for example. I agree with a lot of what you are saying, there are double standards and we in the West have been influenced by our educational and political system to think the way we do.

Thanks to a very brave Chinese dissident we now know a lot more about the repression of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang and the true authoritarian nature of the Chinese Communist Party.

It's been many years since the claims about Uyghurs have been made, and despite modern technology, the best that can be dug up are some hacked old files!
Of course you could link to ASPI's material, but most of that has been discredited.
There is absolutely no doubt that China has jailed tens of thousands in the Xinjiang region, and I also cannot imagine all of them being treated like angels. We know from Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay that prisoners can face a pretty hard time, but so far nothing in Xinjiang comes anywhere near what went on in the former.
Claims of genocides in the region are countered by the highest rate of population increase of any Chinese province and a thriving Islamic culture. Are we to believe that Muslims flock to Xinjiang in full knowledge they are likely to be jailed - maybe killed - for no reason?
I think the big problem with this massive expose is that Dr Adrian Zenz is consistently caught with his pants down when it comes to hard evidence, as distinct from inference:
