If I had a choice between the USA and China I would take USA anytime and everytime. Being controlled by a Communist Government isn't my idea of a good life. If it was so good there then why is so many Chinese people busting their ar$e to get to USA, Australia, UK and Canada to live? Speaks for itself really.

I lived in Vietnam for a couple of years last decade. I was asked why don't the West trade with us? My reply was ... "If I have a choice between buying Rice from Australia or Vietnam which one is going to give me confidence and security with a RULE OF LAW". The answer is of course Australia. But others will take the gamble and chose Vietnam based solely on price,, until the proverbial hits the wall.
And when that happens don't come crying to us when it all goes pear-shaped.

Biggest mistake anyone can make is to assume that those on the other side of the table share the same values.

That goes for anything and everything and as an example leads those of an intellectual, somewhat introverted nature to fail where rationally most would expect them to succeed. They fail simply because the idea that the other side has no interest in facts or truth and will use brute force to win simply doesn't occur to them, leading them to spend their entire efforts winning the battle but losing the war.

Same happens in many areas where one party fails to grasp that others simply don't see something as an objective at all. It's not that they can't work out how to do it or can't afford it or whatever but simply that they have no interest in doing it at all.

I've spent a lot of time in Vietnam over the last 3 years (I spent 6 years in Asia and have just uncomfortably ended up trapped in Australia due to the Chinavirus situation). Things have changed; even the Vietnamese prefer non Vietnamese rice (and fruit, clothes, etc). They are well aware that Vietnamese quality and safety is poor. They're well aware that anything out of Australia is pretty sure to be superior (they probably imagine it's even more extreme than the reality), and they'd even much prefer Thai clothes, fruit, rice etc over local. They also completely understand that anything Chinese is hazardous trash.

It's neither racist nor rubbish. China (the country) consistently produces low quality products. I am not saying their race is inferior (I'm not even saying 'China' or 'Chinese' is a race).

Cherry picking one case of one idiot attacking someone doesn't mean anything. Earlier this year I was in Asia subject to blatant racism by Asian people because I am white. Go to China and see what they typically think of people of other races. Across Asia this year there has been far more racism against foreigners than there has been against Asians or Chinese in western countries. In Asia earlier this year I literally watched the top levels of the national government of the country I was in say white people are beneath Asian people, they are dirty and unsafe, locals should not trust or associate with them, and no local should ever apologise to a white person for anything because white people are so far below Asian people. If any government in any western country said anything like that it would be all over international news, there would be an extreme outcry, there would be sanctions against that country, any of the politicians involved would be out of office quickly and possibly imprisoned, etc. But in reverse it doesn't even make western news.

Someone having concerns about the Chinese government, and I emphasize the word "government" there because that's the issue not ordinary Chinese citizens, does not preclude them also having concerns about the US or other governments also.

I think that point can't be stressed strongly enough. Those expressing concern about the actions and intentions of the Chinese government are expressing concerns about the government. They are not saying anything negative about ordinary Chinese people or being racist, there's a big difference there.

I don't think it's correct to call China a failed state, they have been very successful. Nor do I think it is accurate to call them a rogue state.

They have simply been pursuing their own interests with the complicity of the short term economic interests of the West. We have, over a period of decades, been handing them economic hegemony on a silver platter.

They've been playing the long game while we have been playing the short game.

I don't blame them for that.

However this recent episode has served as a huge wake up call for us in the West. In no uncertain terms, the Chinese communist party has revealed that they are not our friends.... Or, at the very least we have been acting against our own interests and the Chinese communist party merely taking advantage of that.

Either way, it is a matter of urgency that we take control of our economic and cultural future.
