hi all

I'm fairly new to this forum, and i have never had a position opened on an stock listed on asx.

I have a couple of questions
1) How sensitive is Asx to technical analysis? because I've been following a couple of stocks, and there seems to be huge gaps, and not much trading activity(could be a small sample size, cause i only looked at about 6 stocks)
2) Are there charting programs most of you guys use? preferably with a technical analysis scanner(maybe reversal potential opportunities)?

:)

Re: charting software/ with scanner

1. Not quite sure what you mean, but I wouldn't touch any stocks that have little trading activity in them, as it makes it too difficult to exit the position, also to enter the position with any meaningful size.

2. Amibroker

Like the us index would probably have more opportunities, but let's say we compare asx to sgx or hkse. Are there as many opportunities on asx?
Is there a subscription fee to amibroker?
If so, how much is it? Or are there a few trials/demo?

Ami broker about $300
Data feed $250 ish a year.
If good software and feed are expensive
To you---they you shouldnt be trading.

There are plenty of stock trading opportunities
In the Aussi market but from your post you've
Along way to go.

See if you can't get a good sim software.

I downloaded the trial amibroker, but do you need to create your own codes for a scanner?

how often is the data updated?
EOD is updated by the user after 5pm
is it a live data feed?

ASX Snapshots

The Australian Securities Exchange makes available progressive snapshots of the day's trading on the hour, beginning at 11.00am. These snapshots are usually ready for download through Premium Data at about 20 minutes after the hour, and are named as editions. The first edition for the day is the "1100" and the final edition is the "2000". There is no "1800" (6.00pm) edition.

The 1600 (4.00pm) edition reflects the end of on-market trading in equities for the day. Subsequent editions only modify security prices in the event of extended trading in those securities. However, post-1600 editions will reflect off-market trades as regards volume.
The 1700 (5.00pm) edition reflects the end of derivatives trading for the day (Exchange Traded Options) for all non-index derivatives.
The 1900 (7.00pm) edition reflects the final prices and volume for Equities.
The 2000 (8.00pm) edition reflects the end of derivatives trading for the day for index derivatives. The theoretical close value is also provided for all Exchange Traded Options.

Note: The ASX Intraday (11:00 - 15:00) Snapshots are only available to users that have elected to subscribe to ASX Intraday Snapshots.
