Cashless society

I’m currently walking around in a country town Sunday Market, very impressed with the variety and prices. Hardly an eftpos machine to be seen, stall owners are quite happy with today’s turn out & sales .

Really??? The last market I went too (it was actually a vegan food/product market) every single store I remember had eftpos, maybe it’s an eat thing. eg Nan and Pop selling knitted Xmas decorations probably don’t have eftpos, but anyone under the age of 40 that is serious about their stall / booth / Van is going to accept card payments.

Not even a sign saying eftpos. Most of the stalls were local farmers & small producers, antique and used tools, incense and jewellery, books and music, I’m guessing there was probably about 60 stalls. Some probably had eftpos, they just weren’t showing it. I saw plenty of cash changing hands, including from me. Got a nice old tool for home, and my wife picked up a few things .

Next time ask, I reckon you will find the bulk of them have it a available these days, offcourse they might prefer the cash (tax free sales), but they probably still have the little square linked to their phone.

I was happy to pay with cash, it’s very satisfying passing over hard currency.

Possibly, but no one seemed to care and customers seemed happy to pay with cash.

Each to their own I guess, but I hate the idea of having to make special trips to the ATM to pick up cash, and carrying coins around is a pain.

When it comes to satisfaction, I like the Idea having my hard currency earning interest rather than sitting in my wallet, and I have recently developed a taste for travelling business class subsidised by my points earned on my credit card ?

Did I mention that I collect coins?

When ever I get change I check the coins, I’ve built up a nice collection of rare and valuable coins from the change that I receive from using my cash over the years. The coins that aren’t of any interest for me I leave on the kitchen bench and they disappear for someone else in the family to use & enjoy.

We do the same. ?

Slowly slowly the orgs that run the world change things to suit the powerful.
A perfect example of the frog in boiling water analogy.

Remember 5 years ago when CBA got fined $700 Million, it’s no wonder banks want to step away from large cash transactions, and are asking more questions.

Basically the responsibility of ensuring that the transactions are anything to do with money laundering or terrorist financing is being put onto the banks, and these are transactions that the bank makes basically no money off. It’s a big risk with very little reward.
