Milk Man said:Toyota corolla would be my pick. Dunno the engine capacity but its probably 1.8-2L. 100 Kw of power- good bang for buck, and it doesnt use much juice because its got VVT (ask if you want a full explaination). But remember that only milk and juice should come in 2 litres (you want at least 5) .
You get what you pay for. Even the Sony sales reps laugh at the sound quality, so yeah, you wouldn't be the only one.insider said:As for my car stereo well lets just say "i will never buy SONY again"... It's like they design their stereos to break... Maybe I'm just whinging

My car was a show car for the MTX's previous top of the line gear, and a few years on it is still going really strong. My brother had his car done with Soundstream's SPL range probably 8 or more years ago, and it is still one of the best systems I have heard. If you get it done right the first time, you wont have to do anything for a long long time.

Mine and my brother's systems are both SQ over SPL, although they were both recorded at more than 140DB. I'm a big fan of 3 way splits in the front, because you get a really good mid range sound which is great for getting the guitar distortion. Nothing worse than a sound system that misses that frequency.Jay-684 said:Indeed.... Sony is ****
Getting a little off topic but considering there are a few people here interested in car audio my setup (in my 96 318is) is Alpine (9815 head unit), Audison amps and Focal front stage (6.5") and subs (2 x 11").... so not exactly SPL like chops set up, but predominantly SQ....

For sound quality, there still is nothing that comes even close to Boston Acoustics. When I was doing deals, I was going to have Boston high end, with Crossfire subs and amps etc. as Crossfire didn't have a decent high end range for a show car, but ended up going with the MTX deal as it was about half the cost even with enormous discounts.Jay-684 said:lol midrange is what I currently miss!
if I had my choice again I'd probably be going with Boston PRO splits and G5 subs..... the Focals subs dont have enough punch for my liking, and the aluminium tweeters are much too bright..... what i dont have is the $3-4k required to change all of that....
I'd better be careful to not get myself in legal trouble here, but suffice to say that:insider said:My brother owns a pulsar and I pretty much chose the car for him... chops_a_must said:You can try a different amp set up if you aren't happy with the overall sound quality. But I would take punch over volume any day. From what I have heard of the Focal subs, you should be able to cut out the drone and get more punch, just overpower them. They are quite strongly built, so they'll be able to get a fair amount of punishment.
Unless you really are running a heavy metal concert, SQ ought to make you happier than SPL any day. A point that even a few nightclubs are starting to understand (I did say "a few" ).chops_a_must said:You can try a different amp set up if you aren't happy with the overall sound quality. There used to be a saying " If you can't afford a Dodge, dodge a Ford". But then they don't make a Dodge anymore.CanOz said:FORD :rocketwho
It is a 1 channel at 400w? And assuming that is also a D-class amp, it should really be enough, if it is driving the top of the range Focal subs. The only other thing I could say that it is maybe the enclosure, or the box, that isn't set up as well as it could be.Jay-684 said:hmmm.... the subs are being run off an LRx1.400 @ 2 ohms, so each sub is receiving around 450W RMS...
