15 - 20K.. Uncommon... Hmmm.. I picked up a Mercedes Benz a little while back, cost me 2K.. it's a 2.8 and drives real sweet. Puts some of the new cars to shame.. A mate (after seeing and driving mine) picked up a '85 500 SEL Mercedes (Big V8) for 3.5k and it is absolutely gorgeous.. Have a look around you can pick up many nice examples for around the 5k mark and put your 10 - 15k in the bank or better yet the market..

PS. Don't listen to all the 'Merc's cost big bucks to repair', I certainly don't consider the replacement parts I have bought so far expensive in comparison to my 'normal' cars..

Hands down best 'new' cars under $30k are VW Golf or Mazda 3..... I would stretch the budget a touch over $20k and have a car that is reliable, attractive and has great resale value. Both r a winner imo.

You will have to go used, but no potential high flyer, like yourself, should be seen in anything less than a Lexus IS200 or IS300. It quietly says quality and reliability and has no need to shout.

While we at this topic, does anyone has any experience with SUV/4WD particularly the Nissan X-trail and Mitsubishi Outlander (ZG model)? Or even the Toyota Rav4 (not the new model) or Subaru Forrester? Honda CRV is probably not my preference here. Dont mind a good used one for 20-30k perhaps?

OKAY OKAY... I'll help out... You want a car that's fuel efficient, a car that has masculine qualities, you want a sedan, you want a car that has bite when going into corners, a smooth ride, a car that has respectable engine performance given the size of the engine... you then want A 2005/06 Nissan Pulsar...

I consider these cars to be like the Toyota Corolla however the toyotas are only more expensive because of their badge... A great car... I did lot's of research on Hyundai getz, Honda Jazz, Toyota Corola and yaris, suzuki swift, Nissan Pulsar, ford focus and Holden Barina and in my opinion the pulsar is best bang for your buck... Toyotas hold the value a bit better though...

My second pick (even though I like ford more) is the Holden Barina SRI 2004 model not the Daewoo barina... However The problem with the holden is that the metalic interior finishes scratch and rub off easily... so the inside looks trashy after two years of wear...

I must say that if you really should buy either Jap imports or Aussie made not European made... (better Value)

If you want to spend 100,000 dollars why not buy a Lotus Elise... I would

Definately a Toyota Corolla 1.8L 100 Kilawatt. Can't go wrong! I searched on carpoint for over a month before I found the right car at the right price. So research and shop around.
I also think the Japanese import sports cars are good value, reliable, and may turn a few heads!

The best performing car for under 20,000 would be (hands down) a renault clio sport.

124 KW N/A 2 litre.
Wheels pushed out to the edges of the car for OUTSTANDING handling.

Check any car reviews. carsguide.com.au or drive.com.au

only downside is that renault put all the money into the dynamics and didn't spend much on interior.

DO THE RESEARCH - IT IS THE BEST HOT HATCH FOR THE MONEY.

Hi, buy some plastic polish, there is a product called "Renova" thats very good. Or try Megular N.S. Protector (G4110).

A 1999 Lexus IS200 can be had for around $20,000.... should be able to find a model with less than 100,000kms for that.

infact I may even know where one such vehicle with even less kms can be picked up for that exact price due to the recent purchase of the new Lexus IS250

r34 skyline are pretty neat.

i like a bit more speed so i'd probly get the r32 GTR. pretty good value for 20k

what do you ride Insider?

I'm on a 2004 GS 650 DAKAR

Mods: staintune pipes, fastway pegs, h4 High/Low Xenons (imported from Germany) a K&N hiflow air filter.

Oh yeah and I put some Knobby Contis on it as well
