Are there any programs out there to automatically trade.

Can you program it to look at two certain stocks and when one of them increases, then it will automatically place an order to buy/sell the other stock on your list.

Hi Dowdy, yeah there are heaps of software apps that you can program yourself or have someone code for you. What you're talking about seems like pairs trading and SKC would be the resident expert on that subject. :xyxthumbs

You can code almost anything, for a price. :2twocents

So pairs trading, is that what it's called. Having a look on Wiki, my strategy is a little different.

Do you know the website of skc. I googled it and could only find the white pages info but no website

Dowdy,

What you plan to do doesn't sound like pairs trading and unfortunately I do not use automated trading programs at al - so not much help to look for from me. The biggest issue with automation is to make sure you have the right broker that lets you trade automatically. Interactive Brokers comes to mind with its various APIs. IG Markets (DMA CFDs) also has an Excel plug in that sends order when certain conditions are met.

The watch one stock and buy another approach is quite valid. I had a good short trade on DCG today thanks to the bad trading update on FWD. However I do it in a discretionary manner.

My strategy is based on a 60min news story which was on high frequency trading. My strategy isn't high frequency though. There was one sentence in that story that inspired me. And based on the stocks i've looked at using my strategy, it works nearly all the time.

Thanks for the adivice too
