Can someone please help with Metastock formula?

Well I am determined to do some charting/testing but as someone suggested Metastock has a steep learning curve.

I have visited many sites and downloaded 150 page formula builders which will take some time to digest.

I have had Metastock for 2 days now and its a good although (at this stage) complicated program.

What I would like is a formula which will give me ... LAST close must be BELOW the price 7 days ago...
Note that the price 7 days ago does not have to be a all time high

To get that (I think) I would open EXPLORER choose NEW type in a name after that there are 7 columns .. This would go under "Filter"

What would I enter there.
Any help appreciated

JUST 1 more question please ..I can't quite work out how to allocate the data to seperate FOLDERS ... eg at the moment the loader converts ALL the 5000 odd securities into the Metastock\Date folder

I would like to put them into subfolders A-C D-G etc... but cant quite work out how to do this.. I have tried the built in help manual but dont understand how it works

Thanks for that link Tech/a , I have received a free sample and am checking it out.

Well metactock is certainly interseting, I have writen a few formulas and done some basic explorations. There is one thing though I cant figure out.

When the downloader converts the .txt files it places all 5000 approx securities into the /Data folder.
I have figured out how to get it to place all the securities under A B C D )which it created itself) so now I have 26 different subfolders where all securities are placed alphabetically.
This is a real pain when doing explorations because I have to do the same scan 26 times.

Is there anyway to get the Downloader to put the securites into lesser Folders eg all begining with a,b,c,d,e etc into just a A-E folder for example and so forth so that all the explorations can be done in just 3-4 folders.

I have searched all over the place , different forums ets but just dont get it at the moment.... only had the program for 3 days.

Any suggestions appreciated

Sorry but I'm just imagining you loading a single folder 26 times to do an exploration--- :jump:



So you dont have to do this all the time make up a search simply with Close in the filter.
Open explorer
Open the exploration > securuties > Find your A,B,C folders > Open to them then with each folder highlight then simply ADD--the tab in the middle.

You'll only have to do this once to add the whole ASX index.

When you open the results go to SAVE LIST and save it as say FULL ASX. The list will then be there for EVERY exploration you wish to use on the FULL ASX.

Next time just load the securities called FULL ASX.
As you can see you can save any number of results from any type of exploration to run again and again.

Say those with a close BELOW $10 as an example.

I want to explore all the stocks with pivot momentum expert advisor. The exploration result should only show the stocks which are in buy zone(buy signal) in last 10 days. All the formulas for pivot momentum are password protected.

It seems to me that Metastock only gives you 2 options with the downloader

1 Put all 5000 files into the Metastock\Data folder as single listings
2 Put all strating with a,b,c etc into 26 individual folders

As far as I can work out there is no option to create say 4 subfolders A-F G-M etc ...and get Downloader to put the appripriate files there ... is this correct ?

Yes thats right.

However you can make up individual exploration universes. Its Pretty simple to do.

If you want ALL of the first 6 letters in the alphabet just load those 6 as securities run the close exploration and there you have in results all those that make up those folders.

You have to be a little creative but its pretty easy to find ways around most things.

How do you set up an index without the downloader overwriting?

Don't tell me I've got a keep a watch on which stocks are moving in and out the index.

For a price comparision look at PhotoShop the top Graphic programme $au800
compared to PaintShop Pro $au200

MetaStock fits into PaintShop Pro.
Both sort of ok but certainly not professional.

Big deal -- I can write 1001 formulas -- which will be a load of cr*p anyway


Although limited (to the stuff you really need) --but improving. Give me Incredible Charts any day.

That's more or less what I did .. I have 4 explorations named A1 A2 A3 A4

A1 has all the securities from A-E etc...
I removed everything with more than 3 letters .. I guess these were options or something like that .... an astonishing number really, probably more than 1000 all together.

Now I can perform scans more efficiently and orderly.
In a few months it will seem a lot simpler

You certainly CAN set up the downloader to download, into
whatever folders you may wish to set up, in whatever
configuration you may choose, by using the "source"
and "destination" options, under the convert function.

Again, by learning how to use the downloading tools
PROPERLY, you can choose to have Downloader write
new files and/or append the data to existing files ....

..... that means, any additions to the chosen index are
added as the data becomes available.

P.S. ..... for a FREE programme IC is about as good as you
will find however, it really cannot be compared
with the many additional features that Metastock
has to offer.
