What are the benefits of buy backs?

BSL is offering one now.
You can opt to sell your shares back at a discount from 5% - 14%!!
Why would you want to sell a share at a discount?
Shares that are not sold will have a higher value as the company assets are divided by less shares once the buy back is completed.
There are advantages in regard to no brokerage fees and tax benefits in regard to CG/dividend ratios - but?
I would have thought that a company like BSL could better reinvest the $200million buy back amount into its business or buy another good co. to increase profits and hence give shareholders a better dividend. Or is that too simplistic?

That is a huge "but?", They will pay $3.07 as capital and the rest as fully franked divids. So it depends on the final price and your situation. Check your numbers.
