Just a typical bloke you hear down the RSL - John Brogden,(not that there is anything wrong with RSL's) I am so disappointed that someone in such a position could utter a statement like he did and then go around pinching journalistic arses with gay abandon. At least Bill Clinton told Monica it was OK and that no one would find out and made sure his indiscretions were in private. I can't believe the behavior of our politicians not just Brogden but the whole bloody lot of them they act more and more like football players. I call for his sacking from the liberal party and for some governance on the behaviour of our political leaders. Does anybody have any repect now for this man?

Maybe football players are looking more like politicians IMO :D , especially when none of the journos present during this indescretion reported it. This happened three weeks ago and only came out now. What else happens that we don't know about?

I'd just like to know what he is doing with himself now. What an idiot. He must be sat on his couch at home, head in hands with his wife screaming at him. He'll be an achoolic soon.

He would definitely benefit if he asked the audience first or called Shane Warne, as 50/50 doesn’t look like viable option.

He can still call Warnie and exchange notes, or get some tips how to make good spin out of bad judgement call.

"Yeah Yeah"

Copied from the Liberal Party Website
"John was a hard working and very effective Leader of the Opposition who held the government to account. He has paid a very high price for his actions but we wish him well in the future."

Pity he didn't think about holding himself to account, I would like to hear his opinions on aboriginal Australia, women in politics and business, marriage and responsibilty and multiculturalism. Maybe he and Shane share some things in common - being Ocker, but I am damned if I can put up with the rest of Australian local politics being so corrupt, Collins, Chicka and Brogden where to next, is there any end to the Labour Government in NSW?

Dumb, dumb,dumb Brogden.

Looks like reality has hit him, in hospital with self inflicted knife wounds.(not life threatening)

Pollies are happy to pass laws which criminalise and demonise the indescressions of ordinary cits (and judges pontificate) but are not happy to stay in line themselves. (I'm sure I haven't spelt all dem big woids write).

Are we all so perfect?

What he did was wrong!
Though, look at how quickly he did the right thing: he resigned. End of story!

When will the Australian attitude of knocking people who achieve so much end. Tall/small poppy syndrome is bad!

Multiculturism has its fair go in Australia; cross your fingers enough and you might get your toast buttered as well.

I endorse what Tina has said. We're so very quick to make judgment.
Can everyone here say that they have never said anything stupid (particularly under the influence of alcohol) which we have not bitterly regretted afterwards? I doubt it. Brogden made a tasteless and dumb remark for which he subsequently apologised. The Carrs refused to accept his apology. (have neither of them ever said anything silly?). Brogden resigns. What more can he do? He said something very foolish but it seems to me he has paid excessively.

As far as the journalists with the pinched bottoms are concerned, or who were "propositioned" or whatever, for heaven's sake, grow up. These are adult, sophisticated women, not 15 year olds, and they should be able to deal with this sort of drunken idiocy appropriately at the time. Why did they say nothing for three weeks and then make their fuss? We are so carried away with political correctness that before long public life will consist of bland cardboard cutouts with no personality who are afraid to express themselves at all. No, this doesn't mean I accept Brogden's behaviour. I just think we should keep a sense of proportion about what happened and perhaps ask a few questions about why it was put forth in the media so long after the event.

John Brogden has paid dearly for his ill chosen words. How about a little compassion at this stage instead of spoiling for yet more blood in the water.

I think he was pushed rather than resigned out of his own free will.

I really feel for the guy. Although his actions were inappropriate, nothing that he said nor did, is worth the taking of his life.

In his defence he was drinking and on perscription medication, I am assuming for depression. Now, that is no excuse for his actions but certainly would have played a role in the events under question.

For many years while growing up, I worked for a very large convention centre as a waiter. Many nights I witness exactly these kinds of actions, from elite corporate world figures, high profile sports people, politicians and big business men and women too.

It was not uncommon to see...sexual acts being undertaken under tables by candle-light and in corridors, pinchin arses, sexaul comments, racial comments, fights, table clothes being set on fire etc etc.

Amazing what alcohol does to even quite sane people.

from an "ex" hospitality worker who has seen it all, it aint pretty!

There are things which test a person's mental and physical fortitude, these things pressure a person to test his ability and can inevitably reveal the limits of his character. Misguided by stupidity and charged by the alcohol, some people do make poor decisions which end in disaster aren't we glad the Liberal party kicked him out, he could have been our next premier.
