Good morning

The 151st British Golf Open at Royal Liverpool 16 - 23 July 2023

Australian Cameron Smith will head to Royal Liverpool this weekend for his British Open defence after winning a second LIV Golf victory in London. Smith held off a fast finish from Masters champ Patrick Reed and fellow Aussie Marc Leishman to secure a one-shot win at Centurion and collecting a snappy 6-million-dollar winners cheque ... ha ha ha ha ha

Smith said that his mind was never far from his Open defence, and after four days “seeing the sights” in London, the Queenslander will head to Hoylake for his first look at the links course where he’ll try and win the Claret Jug again.
Hook in Cameron et al...

For the non-pay-TVites, the Open website will provide good coverage ....

This year the open has 10 Aussie starters - Cameron Smith, Jason Day, Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee, Lucas Herbert, Travis Smyth, David Micheluzzi, Harrison Crow, Haydn Barron and Connor McKinney.

Five of the 10 Australians in the field – Travis Smyth, David Micheluzzi, Haydn Barron, Connor McKinney and amateur Harrison Crowe – are making their Open championship debuts. For Smyth, Barron and McKinney it is their first appearance in a major championship.

After day one, South African Christo Lamprecht, Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Argentine Emiliano Grillo all lead the championship with 5 under par.

Aussie contingent: Herbert and Lee at even par, Day, Scott and Smith all one over, Barron three over, Crow and McKinney five over, Micheluzzi six over and backing up the rear is Smyth with seven under.

Have a very nice weekend.

EDIT correct an error... 10 aussie participants not 12 (cannot count ha ha ha)

Good evening
Day 2 obviously still underway.

Of note though, Travis Smyth experienced the despair yesterday, but 24 hours later, the Australian made history on the same hole. The brand-new par-3 at 17 is the kind of hole that could make or break a round. Smyth found that out to his detriment in his opening round hitting his tee shot way too far on the way to a double bogey five.

He more than made amends on today though, hitting the first-ever hole-in-one on the par-3. At eight-over, it will not be enough for Smyth to make the cut on his Open and major debut, but in terms of consolation prizes, it surely does not get much better !!!!

Good morning
After the second day, American Brian Harman leads the competition with 10 under par.

Aussies, Min Woo Lee and Jason Day are both still well in contention both 3 under par.
Adam Scott is sitting at 3 over par.

Aussies, projected cut, unfortunately:
Cameron Smith, Lucas Herbert, Haydn Barron, Travis Smyth, David Micheluzzi, Connor McKinney and Harrison Crow

So, at this stage there are still 3 Australians left in the British Open.
Have a very nice weekend.

Note: cut commences at 4 over par

Good evening
Brian Harman wins the 151st British Golf Open with a 13 under par score card.

Australian Jason Day did very well to come in 7 under par along with three others just behind Harman.
