DB008 mentioned this in Breaking News but thought it deserved its own thread.

What an absolutely disgusting thing to do. An incident like this shows the very best and the very worst of humanity.

What surprises me is the website commentary being run is all about political finger pointing from Obama, Bush, Clinton and the TEA Party.
Very little in the way of sympathy towards the dead and injured.

Some of the more bizarre commentary here.

I know my initial reaction is complete shock and anger at the perpetrators.

My thoughts and prayers to the dead, injured and their families.

Early reports are two exposions 20 seconds apart. Two (2) confirmed dead and twenty (20) injured.

Security is an illusion to some extent, if someone wants to do this sort of thing they'll do it.

There are thousands of nut cases/extremists out there and you'll never stop them all.

Makes you think twice about living in cities.

As a side note I heard in situations like this stay away from where the police direct you, as the instigators sometimes plan for this and have extra explosives at exits and obvious paths of escape.

This whole thing seems a bit strange, such a large crowd yet luckily, so few fatalities so far...seems like something that was not that well organized, not like the London bombings. Not your typical Al-Qaeda gig.

This is a good thing...So far.

Wow, just when you thought it was safe to go outside again... Reports of 100 or more injured and more devices found unexploded.

Hell of a coincidence that it happened on the day North Korea was considerd likely to strike. Also with the animosity over the gun debate and apparently the explosion was near a memorial for the newtown shootings.

Seems counter productive for the gun lobby, unless a particular anti gun lobby person was targeted this way to not attract attention to guns.

I suppose time will tell whether it was a targeted killing by a domestic nutter or a foreign terrorist attack. While NK is at the fore atm, there are plenty of others who have an axe to grind with the US.

It seems the bombs were quite small as they were stored in rubbish bins and two more were found that were able to be diffused. Hard to do mass damage with bombs that size.

It was Patriots Day so could have been a symbolic act, but agree Al-Qaeda usually target fatalities in the thousands but a small strike is better than no strike.

So many questions unanswered at this stage.

How NK even gets a mention for a bombing is a bit strange...

Bombings are the mark of Muslim extremists, although usually suicidal.

There have been reports of a Saudi National suspect....but like Springhill says ir too early to tell. There would be hundreds of Feds there now combing the area for evidence...

Hopefully they nail whomever did this.

Just sad

We had the news on at the office covering the story and I wanted to just turn it off, depressing to listen to.

Apart from being on the day considered most likely to attack the US, on the anniversary of their founder, NK has engaged in bombings previously, including to disrupt sporting events. I think it was abt 1987 they bombed a plane to disrupt to the Seoul Olympics preperation.

While the death toll is low at this stage, we can only speculate what it might have been if the other two bombs had gone off.

While not putting it past the NRA or supporters, I can't see this furthering their cause unless they intended to take out some key opponents such as politicians that intend to vote against them.

But, while the two hot issues atm are NK and the gun debate, I agree it's too early to rule out other opportunistic psycho's and terrorists.

I strongly suspect it was some nutter home grown group as if it were al quaeda i reckon they would of announced a successful bombing or something to that affect. kind of like the timothy mcveigh thing from years ago.

I heard some analyst saying that conservative, right, white males have historically been behind most of this sort of thing... if it is indeed a local terrorist. That would be consistent with the local gun debate, but unless there turns out to have been a key high profile target there, I find it difficult to see this furthering their cause.

It is odd...could be as you say Whiskers...some obscure little group seeking attention.

How the world goes round......

BTW, there are uncensored pictures of this on the internet. Terrible. Like he stepped on a land-mine. No ankle, just a bit of bone protruding.

UPDATE on wheelchair guy...

It was reported on the radio today that there were people holding placards of protest around the finish line.

The placards read something along the lines that the city of Boston would burn for its sins, and references to sodomy amongst other things.
Reportedly these people remained in place when the bombs went off, as if they may have known in advance. They didn't panicked like the rest of the crowd.

Has anyone else heard this anywhere?

So many versions of events, so much hearsay.

Let's hope the victims and the every day heroes don't get forgotten amongst the news of the hunt for the perpetrators and the anger against them.

CCTV exposes the bombers.

Curious that there was no mention of the third person in a yellow jacket following the other two, also wearing a back pack. I understand that there were additional unexploded devices, which would suggest that there was more than two people involved.

Something different, yet interesting.
