Biggest ripoffs in business

SALES
The most over used and under delivered promise In business marketing
Along with bankruptcy sale, closing down sale, end of season sale and every other sale.

We all know how a sale works
Retail less x%

Define retail price---- an inflated selling price marked on items before they are marked down to "sale" price.

Also
Lead lines
Goods which are sold at less than cost to entice buyers to buy other goods which are higher in price than sale price! Milk and bread have been used lately.

If I need anything on my car, I research it, because it seems mechanics are mostly cheats and a/holes. I'm sure a few are ok but not many.

Some tips:

Don't ask for an eg. 100,000 km service. Read the manual instead, and see what needs doing at 100,000km, then ring around for quotes on specific jobs and the price of parts. Otherwise what they do is start replacing stuff that doesn't need replacing, with huge and unnecessary costs. When you find someone who will do it, ask for an agreed price and tell them you want to see the parts they have pulled out (otherwise they say it's completed and all they have done is open the hood then close it. The other trick they do is take out functioning parts, keep them for themselves and replace them with dodgy second hand parts). It seems totally ridiculous that I'd have to do it this way, but I don't trust them... at all! I'd rather find someone good and just say "service it! I'll be back in 4 hours". If anyone knows of such a mechanic in Melbourne, let me know.

And never ever get any work done at a dealership.

Really,

Sounds like you've been watching too many re-runs of ACA,

A large dealership services my partner's car which is still under warranty for a reasonable price, I have dealt with friendly independents in the past who have been honest with quotes and delivered as required. When I was a kid I broke down on the freeway, my mechanic (at the time)fixed it on the spot for the cost of the second hand part in question plus a bit of labour.

I guess if you walk into a workshop with feelings of contempt towards the mechanic asking to hang on to all the parts that get pulled out, wanting to see the old oil and filter and texta marking all the bolts and clamps you wont get particularly good service, if fact I wouldn’t be surprised if you are told to f*** off. :)

lol. So you're a mechanic at a dealership? or your buddy is. Which one? Did the guy who fixed your car for free float down from the heavens? :)

"When I was a kid...." ho ho ho!

Did you bother reading my post,

The guy that fixed my car by the side of the freeway did so for the cost of the second hand part in question plus a bit of labour.

I don't have any connections with dealerships or independents other than services I pay for.

The point I'm making is treat anyone with contempt you will get what you deserve.:)

Probably told this story before

Back in the 80's there were a few shonky car yards down here and one in particular had sold a lemon to one of my old mans workers. Usual mutterings of shonky prick etc but he had to wear it. Anyway couple of months later my old mans truck blows the engine and at about $8000 to replace wasn't worth much. So he gets all the boys to tow it to the top off the hill up from the car yard then gets a push off and rolls down. He pulls up right out the front makes sure all the salesman see him hop out then negotiates with the salesman on a ute in the yard. The salesman must have smelt blood and gets my old man to sign with a trade in deal on the truck before even checking. Salesman sends one of the boys out to bring the truck inside the yard after the deal is all done and dusted and none of them can get it started. Couple of hour’s later car yard rings my old man swearing and saying the deal is off, but too late the contract was signed. They tried legal action and collectors but to no avail. Old man reached legendary arch enemy status amongst the local second hand dealers and you could see them break a sweat every time he walked in.

It is hard to win with anybody who wants to get more money than they should ask for.

If I suspect or am sure that I was done, next time I go somewhere else.

Luckily where I live I have few places I can go to for service.

True Happy and researching any goods or service purchases before deciding on where to place one's money is wise.

Buyer beware.

Seriously some of the things you see people get involved in---and its normally pretty clear its too good to be true---except to them---just makes me shake my head.

If he's so silly, I wouldn't be feeling too sorry for him.

I've just flown back in from out west on a charter, and the bloke sitting beside me on the plane told me the exact same story. Norwegian, Ghana, lost bond the lot. He is meeting her in Cairns next week.

They must be sisters.

Thought this post deserved a kick along. The ATO released the list of big businesses with their stated gross income, taxable income and tax paid. As usual there are the interesting cases of companies, private and public, that have HUGE sales and zero tax.

As the ATO points out there are legitimate tax losses, write offs and investment decisions that can legitimately reduce Taxable income to zero. Having said that every billion dollars that is lost to the ATO by Big Business using the usual suspects is a billion dollars more the rest of use have to pay.

Just a few.

Everyone , whether business or individual, will reduce their tax payable to as little as possible.

I don't blame the businesses I blame the law makers for letting them get away with it.

Most of the politicians are likely doing the same themselves.

Multi Nationals (and others) are still successfully defending their privacy to make out like bandits. Labour has been bent over

Interesting point. I suggest that the major reason businesses have been getting away with loose or poorly enforced Taxation Law is that business works very effectively at protecting its interest to make as much money as possible in any way they can.

Something called political donations may have something to do with it.
