Big Day Out

Byörk played Melbourne after all. Good news for the show, which is getting back to it's original roots...
55k attend Gold coast
50k++ for Sydney and Melbourne
P,
This is the 3rd year in a row it is a sell out.
2006 it sold out about 1 week before the date. 2007 it was 1st week in Jan. 2008 it was mid December
Actually it's the 4th year in Adelaide, but 2 have been on the day...

Thanks in advance. It's just as easy for me to get to any of them except WA so I might as well pick the best one.
At Wayville this morning, but have 1 (big) vote for the Gold Coast from a Sydneysider... I'll speak to him another dozen or so times before the end of show (for me), will ask him why...

***edited for brevity***
Just glad it isnt a heat wave given post Christmas weather.
Weather forecast for Adelaide has been re-rated (upwards) twice in last 36 Hours... 32 degrees was last I heard.

If they're into the boiler room they'll be drinking water anyway... :

Setup looks really good this year Prospector...
Regards to all,
Scuba

Went to Melbourne yesterday..

Great day, great weather

Rage against the machine the highlight

Only disappointing part was the d barrier, was caught in the gates for about 2 hours missed the arcade fire and silverchair, but got in time for Rage.

Still worth the $130

cheers

I'll be heading to the BDO in Adelaide this Friday... I heard Rage was playing so that was all I needed to buy my tickets! East Coast Blues and Roots Festival should be pretty sweet this year too, tho I'd prefer last years lineup.

There were a few complaints in the papers today about the flemington racecourse as the setting? Any thoughts, the dust was bad but other than that i don't think they could of done much about it.

Some festivals (notibly those that are camping festivals over a number of days) have trucks spray water on paths during the day to keep the dust at bay.

FWIW yesterday was the first BDO I haven't been to for 4-5 years. Last year I only went to see Tool & spent most of the time watching local acts or drinking at the Lilypad, so couldn't really justify going.

I haven't been myself but everyone I know that has been to a Falls festival seemed to enjoy it. That's to the point that from what they're saying it's probably worth the trip to Vic / Tas if you're into camping type festivals. Both of these sell out months before the actual event.

Just one thing though. Alcohol. DON'T try and BYO alcohol at least for the Tas one. They WILL search the car and you will NOT get in if anything is found. Tipping it out won't help - you're gone once it's found.

At least one group from SA learnt the hard way about that this year after going through all the "hand it over now - last chance before we check" points and was turned away for having alcohol at the entry gate. To my understanding the Falls was the only reason they came to Tas in the first place so it wrecked their trip.

You can drink, no problems there, but absolutely no BYO at the Falls.

Don't go to the Falls, do go to Meredith every year - best festival by a long margin. BYO alcohol (just no glass), fantastic atmosphere, wide variety of acts, outdoor cinema and a brilliant location.

My eldest son and his group of friends have been to Falls for maybe four years. They didnt go this year because the prices had soared!

Only been to the Falls once, and that was when my wife won the Triple J competition, they flew her from Townsville and me from Roxby Downs, we camped in the inner compound, had VIP passes to back stage for the whole thing and she did the New Years countdown with Iggy Pop on stage.

Wont be able to make it to the BDO this year, unfortunately as I am a big R.A.T.M. fan. Though, I am going to see Iron Maiden in Perth on Monday night which is more than enough consolation. Up Tha Irons!!

Well, BDO was on in Adelaide last Friday - and Thursday night my youngest, all primed and ready to go with his list of performance times, broke a bone in his foot He shouldnt have gone at all, but he lasted 2 hours and I had to go and collect him. Rotten timing.

2010 looks like a ripper. Sold out in most venues quickly. Looking forward to it.

looking forward to the melb event on sunday..

ramstein. primal scream.. iggy... grinderman.. tool.. lcd soundsystem insane

Problem i had with this years (hence why i didnt go) is there were no new major headliners. I have already seen all the headliners this year. A few lesser bands i would have liked to have seen but didnt want to brave the Syd crowds

Not going (not a fan of teh kids) but it is a better line up this years than many in the past.
A mate saw Grinderman's sideshow and said it was one of the best gigs he's ever seen in his life. Warren Ellis is as much a musical freak as Nick Cave is.

Going to Adelaide BDO next Friday. Should be good...

Also going to Soundwave in March.

Lineup at least has some decent music for BDO this year, though I do think Soundwave will be by far the better of the two (comes down to personal taste...).

I'll be in Adel next weekend too Smurf. How long you up there for?
