Can put you in contact with him if you like he can aswer more questions than I.---he works out of the Uni in the Physics Research dept.

Re: Austraian Universities

Kris after looking down the various ways a Uni is Ranked I dont think Adelaide performs all that badly.

In Asias top 100 its well above Middle ground infact prefered.

Infact it is prefered over the Top position holder Woolongong at no 59
Adelaide no 34.

Adelaide even makes the highly regarded "Group of 8".

Should have read beyond the first group of rankings

Oh....Can you guys give me some advice??

I'm hoping to study Accountancy or Electronics/Telecom Engineering in Australia...
Any advice on which university should I try to enrol in?

Re: Austraian Universities

Go the Accounting route, Engineers don't make any money relatively speaking. I am one, so can speak from experience. My mate went to Moscow a few years after Uni and was earning US$250k/year with Price Waterhouse.

The point is, you should do more reseach on what you want to study than which Uni to go to. Of course there are many factors other than $. For example which country do you want to work in? Also note Engineering/Computing is coming cheap, thick and fast out of India now, and at 1/10 th the cost of an equivalent Australian Engineer.

that symbol seems to be an infantry one... i was from 40 SAR. correct me if i'm wrong, you are living overseas... probably same country where i come from.

anyway, firstly, i think the course you choose must be recognised by the governing board back home. esp engineering, i suggest you contact the engineering board in the country to find out which are the degrees they recognise or has their approval. not much point studying 4 years and realise that you can't get a job cos it is not recognised. business was considered as a general degree that allows you to work in less specialised areas, so doesn't really matter where you study the course. just a note, IDP is not a general office that promotes tertiary education in australia. they are just like any other contractors that promotes university education in australia. so don't just stick to one, shop around. and i read on one of the news in last week's AFR, that IDP won a contract to promote universities in NSW o don'tbe surprise that they point you to that way.

secondly, another issue would be cost of living. the major cities like sydney and melbourne have a higher cost of living e.g. rent. one of the reasons i studied in adelaide was because of that. and adelaide is a city but not as huge as sydney and melbourne. traffic was still managable when i was there.

you mentioned tasmania. i have heard about the beautiful sceneries Tasmania offers but have yet to visit. if my assumption is right that you are not from down under, the travel cost for you to fly home might not be cheap. let see.... i don't think tasmnia has international airport, which means you would have to transit in the major cities and then from there hop onto an international flight home.

you see, i was working in alice springs for a number of years and i find that for me to return home is a major hustle. i had to either fly to darwin or adelaide then to home. and there are times where you might get tickets for the interstate flight but not overseas vice versa.... too troublesome... and then the cost of the flight cost me an arm & a leg... A$1600 return!

anyhow, i won't bore the forum members with my experience... send me an email and i'll try to help you out.

ps: yup, accounting though boring, will get you more money (in australia) than an engineer. not sure about acountants overseas. anyone knows whether there's a CEO in the ASX 200 who is an engineer..? from memory most of them are either lawyers and accountants (i think).

I agree Adelaide Uni rates pretty well, I am just going on what I heard from media sources.

Media releases both on radio and nightly news services just last month reported Adelaide Uni slipping down the ranking scale from previous years. As a consequence they are granted much less money from the government.
