The first post ever on Aussie Stock Forums was made by me on May 28, 2004 so the first birthday of ASF is this Saturday.

To commemorate this occasion I have decided to have a competition and give away a book. This competition is open to ALL Aussie Stock Forums members. There are no minimum posts or posts per day average required. You need only be a registered member of Aussie Stock Forums.

So what do I have to do I hear you ask! Well it's simple. All you have to do is guess the value of the All Ords at this Friday's (27/5) close of trade. That's it. The winner will be the person who either guesses the exact value or is closer than any other entrant!

The book I am giving away is Other People's Money: The Complete Story of the Extraordinary Collapse of HIH by Andrew Main. As it says on the back of the book, "In OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY, investigative journalist Andrew Main tracks the spectacular crash and burn of HIH from its days as the nation's largest insurer to its end as the subject of a Royal Commission, and the consequent disgrace and sentencing of its top executives."

The competition closes at midnight tomorrow night (Thursday) and late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances!

Please post your entries in this thread... and GOOD LUCK TO ALL! :D (Oh, and a happy birthday to Aussie Stock Forums!)

I'll enjoy reading that book with - 4032

Congratulations Joe on a great Forum

Joe,

Well done on the site and service you offer, and happy 1st Birthday to Aussie Stock Forums :jump:

I'll guess 4008.8

I'll go for 4011 - keep up the great work Joe...ASF is fantastic.

Tech/a - maybe you should read the book - it documents the downfall of people who thought they were invincible....

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

It's great to know you are all enjoying the site. I owe you all a debt of gratitude for sticking around and posting. After all, without all these quality posts, this site doesn't amount to much. So thank you all!

I couldn't help but stifle a chuckle when chicken mentioned 'staff'. I'm proud to say that Aussie Stock Forums is run out of my own home in suburban Brisbane and the only other staff is my cat Sid... and possibly my girlfriend. I even have a real job... well, kinda.

Anyway, since this is the first birthday thread, I'll give you all a behind the scenes peek at Aussie Stock Forums mission control. :D

It's interesting you have a picture of your cat rather than your girlfriend in that picture :p:

I knew someone would mention that! ;) She took the photo and framed it for me. hehe :D

I also like the cooling system for the computer - do you get a sea breeze Joe?

Hi Joe,
Congrats on a great site and for taking care of it all, you probably don't realize how much you've helped countless people out there (well over 1000 at last count!).

My guess is 4010
