http://spaceweather.com/Circumstantial evidence is mounting that the phenomenon was caused by a malfunctioning suborbital rocket, possibly a Bulava ICBM launched from a Russian submarine in the White Sea. A Navtex no-fly alert was issued for the White Sea on Dec. 9th, and photographers have recorded what appears to be the initial boost phase of a launch beneath the spiral (see inset). A rocket motor spinning out of control could indeed explain the spiral pattern, as shown in this video of a Trident II missile launched from a US submarine in 2007. The Russian rocket hypothesis is plausible, but it has not yet been confirmed.
Google images: black hole.
Stephen Hawking predicted that due to Hawking Radiation, black holes below a certain size must feed or evaporate. What you have just witnessed is the aborted birth of a black hole. Blazar and all.
The LHC broke a new record just hours before this appeared, i would theorize that it spawned a black hole, which traveled through the earth, feeding, before it emerged into our atmosphere, still feeding, and evaporated when it reached the void of space and no longer had matter within the radius of it event horizon to feed upon.
Shut the thing down and bury it, NOW.

Hmmm, this is worrying. Last night boffins fired up the LHC for a surprize 2.36 TEV particle collision (ahead of schedule). This might sound like a big number, in this is only ticking over.
We've been told that it's perfectly safe, but the might the turn it up, Norway gets weird effects in the sky?
Keep watching this space as they say!
Norwegian astronomer Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard says it's 99.9% safe to say that it's a rocket out of control, while some newspapers and TV channels are quoting Russian military sources, confirming that this is a failed Bulava missile launched from a nuclear submarine in the White Sea.
CBS news have released details it is now a confirmed failed Russian missile
JohnnyG, is that Hawking quote in relation to this specific event?
In his entire career he has never heard of a rocket flying in a perfect circle, let alone spinning in a stable circular pattern for multiple turns. Even if it was going to fly in perfect circles because of its shape etc, the g force would destroy it before it completed one turn.
