Thanks again CanOz - but nothing like that on my AB :(

Anyway, I have managed to get it by using several different layouts which I have labeled according the time frame. Just means a double click on the appropriate layout rather than a single click on the sheet label at the bottom of the screen. Don't think it's worth upgrading for at this stage as it is working OK with the layouts.

If anyone else has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Sails, (got your PM)

1/ create the templates you want to use for each time frame (i think you already have that sorted)

2/ Lets say you want to run 5min, 1hr and daily

3/ You will have one chart window already open; click on File/New/Linked chart - twice. You now have 3 charts that will be linked, so if you change the ticker in one, all three will change.

4/ Change to the time frame that you want in each window, this will not effect the time frame selected in other windows.

5/ You can arrange the windows to be all visible in a configuration, or you can maximize the windows and the linked charts will be tabbed along the top of the chart window.

6/ Save as a layout.

Voila! (hope that is what you wanted)

Good luck

Thanks Wayne - I think I've got that to work as you have suggested, but it's a bit different to what I was looking for.

Have posted your picture again below and I would like to get those tabs at the bottom as you have done. I know how to change the names of the tabs, but as soon as I change the time frame in one of the tabbed pages, it changes ithe time frame for all 8 of them.

OK I think I know what you want.

You want to just click on a tab to show a particular time frame; is that right?

If so, do exactly as before, but maximize the chart window and use the upper tabs to select the time frame you want (you can have as many of these as you like), as per image.

Yes, that's what I was wanting and obviously wrongly assumed from your snap shot that the lower tabs could be used for differing time frames. I see now that you use the lower ones as templates. And the top tabs would work equally as well, except it won't do it on my AB version 4.8. The charts can only be accessed by clicking on "window" and selecting one of the other charts from that list. Illustrated below.

Also, where you use "File/New/Linked chart", I can only get that by clicking on "Window/New Linked" chart. There is no "new" to be found under file except for "new database".

Anyway, I have searched all the tool bar menus, etc, but can't find any settings to tab the charts at the top. So, if it isn't an issue with the 4.8 version, do you know where else to search for the settings that would allow the top tabs to work?

Hi Sails,

You could give this a try, I remember having always had the tabs when I first started using AB, and that was 4.8 from what I can remember.

Right click on menu bars and choose customize, in there under Appearance, should be an option for Show MDI Tabs, that will give you the tabs as Wayne's pic shows.

Hopefully this works for you :)

I'm assuming you've tried this Sails?

Thanks for the reply NAsX. :)

Can't find anything on MDI - see the picture below. Have been through all the options available on the "Toolbars & Menus" and "Panes & tabs" to see if that MDI option would show up - but to no avail...

Dare i ask why you don't want to spend the money to upgrade?

Its still a very good software package and excellent value for money. Is it the same as buying a new copy to upgrade?

Cheers,

CanOz

LOL - of course you may ask! I am only using it for the SPI and 4.8 does everything else I need - at this stage anyway. It's been years since I have traded the SPI, so just checking it out. Have only recently re-opened the IB account and as SPI data comes free with IB, I decided to brush the dust of Amibroker and start collecting data. Haven't done any serious trading on it yet except for a little in-&-out to make sure I'm OK using IB's booktrader.

I really don't know how to code my rather discretionary system in AB - and I am only testing these ideas out. It's a curious mixture of the things I've found to work best for my personality over the years, however, it does include having the trades in sync with multiple time frames - and that's why it would be so much easier if I could get those top tabs to work.

If it is just a simple setting somewhere that will fix the problem in 4.8, there seems no point in throwing money away. If I find I am doing OK with the SPI, then going for the upgrade may be necessary.

Will check the pricing out - not sure at this stage.

Cheers :)

... Is it the same as buying a new copy to upgrade?.../QUOTE]

Just had a look at the pricing and it is about half the price of a new copy to upgrade. I've only got the standard edition, so that might explain the limitations.

Perhaps that could be a reason right there, not just the version but edition. If you want to use Real Time data into AmiBroker i was under the impression you had to use the Professional edition. Thats the main difference. I was not eve aware that you could bring real time data into the Standard edition!

IB real time works fine with the standard edition and updates automatically, dynamically or whatever terminology you like. Perhaps AB have removed that functionality in later versions. The standard version doesn't allow for tick data, but I think I read somewhere that IB's spi data doesn't go much lower than minute. Could be wrong - will check up after the weekend.

I still mystified as the snap shot I took a few posts ago of the "appearance" settings window, it has a choice of tabs being at the top or bottom. I'm not convinced yet that it can't be done. Will keep digging for a little longer...

Hey guys,

I'm trying to import data from IB but I keep getting the symbology error. I know I have access to the data because it's showing in TWS. I can also import FX data from IB, so I don't think it's the API.
I've tried the following:
  • ANN-ASX
  • ANN-ASX-STK
  • ANN
  • ANN.ASX
  • XAO-ASX-IND

None of them work. What's going on?

Hi Sails,

Looks like it's a limitation by version.

http://www.amibroker.com/guide/h_customizeui.html

Go down to the very end of the page, it mentions that tabs are only available post 4.90.

Cheers.

Yes, looks like one version too early:(

Never mind - will have a look at Ninja trader when I get time to see if the free version is of any use while I am trying to work out some sort of methodology for trading the SPI.

Thanks to everyone for the help. :)

I have bhp-asx-stk (lower case) importing OK - but it doesn't work using capitals. Maybe give that a go...
