"The crash has laid bare many unpleasant truths about the United States. One of the most alarming is that the finance industry has effectively captured our government", says Simon Johnson, a chief economist with the International Monetary Fund in 2007 and 2008. In an article entitled "The Quiet Coup" in the May, 2009 issue of the Atlantic magazine he (with James Kwak) goes on to say that "if the IMF's staff could speak freely about the U.S., it would tell us what it tells all countries in this situation: recovery will fail unless we break the financial oligarchy that is blocking essential reform and if we are to prevent a true depression, we're running out of time".

Happy now TH? Just copied for posterity! Not because I am some evil IP infringer!

EDIT: Now I'm irked, TH I know the guidelines for copyright fair use! grr

1. Character of use (educational, commercial, etc.)
2. Nature of work (creative, factual)
3. Amount used
4. Effect on market value.

Considering this was posted on a free website viewable to all probably as a reprint from an investors newsletter or similar which came out earlier, I doubt Lorimer Wilson will have minded. I am going to email and ask.

Which bit of this don't you cut & paste guys understand??

Very interesting article, thanks for the post.

To follow on from TH's post, Sinner has used much less than 10% of the article and has linked to the original document as per ASF guidelines that Joe has set out and inline with Australian fair dealings. I'm not sure what the problem is TH.

Sites such as Oxford Reference Online have very clearly stated the bounds in which you may use their material :http://www.oxfordreference.com/pages/privacypolicy_and_legalnotices

Oxford Reference Online said:
Legal notices

1. search, view, retrieve, and display portions of Oxford Reference Online;
2. electronically save portions of Oxford Reference Online;
3. print out single copies of portions of Oxford Reference Online;
4. email single entries from Oxford Reference Online to yourself or to a friend or colleague.

Under the licence signed by the Subscriber, you may NOT:

1. remove or alter the copyright notices or other means of identification or disclaimers as they appear in Oxford Reference Online;
2. systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of Oxford Reference Online for any purpose;
3. display or distribute any part of Oxford Reference Online on any electronic network, including without limitation the Internet and the World Wide Web (other than the institution's secure network, where the Subscriber is an institution);
4. permit anyone to access or use Oxford Reference Online (other than other users authorized by the institution, where the Subscriber is an institution);
5. use all or any part of Oxford Reference Online for any commercial use.

However for other sites there are no such details, the Safe Haven simply has a copyright logo as does Lorimer Wilson. Though, in his article he clearly encourages it's dissemination and may even be alluding to his own taken liberties for his source material:
Johnson's article is so frank, so insightful and so alarming it deserves the widest readership possible during these traumatic times and, as such, I have taken the liberty to edit and paraphrase in places his intriguing interpretation of what ails America's economic state and what needs to be done to alleviate the crisis.
They also provide a handy link by which to share their article (If you do email him Sinner it would be interesting to see his reply):

You didn't see the first post which has now been edited. Sinner just copied and pasted tho WHOLE friggin article. How about adding something of value like at least directing people to a few lines to show your point/s. How about giving some opinion. Or Something.

Then of course i could also bang on about this,

Yes, sorry I pasted the whole article. I like to do this because I hate searching old threads to find dead links and half an article! :banghead:

Unfortunately despite Joes pretty reasonable request, I have no commentary to add as the piece was very opinionated on its own!

You can go back through all the articles I've linked, generally if I have something meaningful to add I will (otherwise keep my mouth shut), and depending on the usefulness of the article I will paste none (just link and title), some or the whole of the article to add to the content of this forum. Sometimes I will even link to paid articles!

I didn't just copy and paste the whole article or portray it as my own work, there was an author attribute and link to the original article if anyone wanted to verify my paste or find anything out about the author, who was just paraphrasing a much more important document in his own coloured view anyway!

Oh good, so we now use ASF for our own archive. That's fine then :rolleyes:

All cut and pasters carry on........

Not really sure why you are on my case?

I don't copy and paste the entirety of every single article I link on here, in fact this is the first one I remember doing in a while.

My actions and justifications are clearly not meeting your standards here TH, I will just keep my mouth shut from now on.

Ahh, OK. My apologies. :eek: Didn't see the initial post, just the final edited version. In that case I concur with your post #2 TH.

No no, please open it and offer some of your own opinion then we can go about disagreeing with that ;):D

Sinner and TH... stop being big girls blouses and tell me...

America's Financial Oligarchy huh? ... what is that about? Isn't America planet earth's flagship democracy??
