Britain demands release of captured marines, sailors

The British Government has asked for a full explanation after 15 of its sailors and marines were taken prisoner by Iran.

During a routine patrol in the Persian Gulf, the British men were captured at gunpoint by Iranian forces.

The Royal Navy insists they were in Iraqi territorial waters when they were taken prisoner and were escorted to an Iranian base.

In London, Iran's ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office.

British Foreign Minister Margaret Beckett has demanded the safe return of the men.

"We have left them in no doubt we want our personnel and equipment back," she said.

Mrs Beckett says she has also sought a full explanation about why the 15 men were captured.

Iran state television insists the group had illegally entered Iranian territorial waters.

sheesh - here we go again - maybe get Jimmy Carter in as a consultant - what not to do maybe (crash while you're planning to rescue them). Anyone remember the movie Raid on Entebbe - the one with Charles Bronson and Peter Finch? :2twocents

Hopefully, commonsense will prevail and the sailors returned in due course. No doubt another headache for Tony Blair before he leaves office.

Seems Iran really is looking for a fight.

Strategic (for want of a better word) move as the U.N. votes on arms and finance sanctions against the gov. of Iran.Masters of War - a deadly game. :iamwithst

Without trying to sound either "pro" or "anti" American...that article is decidedly Anti American.

There are a lot of problems in the world...but not all of them are started by the Yanks. :2twocents

Yes I think you are right in saying that the yanks aren`t responsible for a lot of problems in the world.

Assuming the role as judge, jury and executioner around the world they are sometimes right and sometimes wrong.
