Would it be possible to put a stop to General Chat during high volatility on the markets.

It does get a bit tiring trawling through recent threads discussing guys called Brett, Animals such as Cats and other Fauna, Global Warming etc. etc. It sounds like a snowflake conference in a third rate university.

Or could the moderators hide them so that we can discuss making or losing money.

The Donald's personal hygiene, racism, homophobia and misogyny I could not give a rats about, nor on a recent Washington Post survey could 96% of Americans.

Equally Global Warming and #metoo.

These and other inconsequential topics are more adduced to Twitter than ASF

Forum members can abolish General Chat at will simply by clicking the "Ignore Forum" link when inside the General Chat forum. Then you won't see any posts from that forum in "New Posts" or "Recent Posts".

"Or could the moderators hide them so that we can discuss making or losing money." Fu---k me a forum about shares that wants to discuss that.

Are you high? You have been taken over by Tismes

I'm surprised a smart bloke like Gumnut hasn't worked that out after all the years he's been around. :roflmao:

GG i was about to start a new thread titled " defining extreme market volatility" as this will need to be discussed at length and defined in order to institute your proposed new rule re;- no general chat during such periods, however i struck a problem. if i start the new thread in general chat, which then becomes un-seeable during volatile periods, nobody will be able to see the thread defining volatile periods and then nobody will know when the volatile period starts or ends?.... maybe, stick with me, if i start the new thread re- definition elsewhere, it will, in a few months time be completely lost, and therefore no use to any body and the same as if it were in the general chat bit anyway, whew i am struggling now, so as you may be gathering i think it just might be easier if we do not have to define what exactly is volatile and what is not, and probably stick with what we have now. possibly.

Nothing for it but to reach for the therapeutic relief of thc psychosis.:D

I would also suggest to those who would like to filter out the General Chat forum in times of extreme market volatility that they use the "Ignore Forum" link to achieve that end.

Coercion is always a last resort in my mind, and when tools exist that allow forum members to hide threads and entire forums from view, that should naturally be the preferable course.

I’ll be a little less polite than usual and say that I think the fuss about General Chat is mostly whinging.

Yes there are issues with a lack of stock posts on ASF but those who find a problem with the mere existence of General Chat are being silly in my view.

It’s akin to me saying I can’t watch sports coverage on Channel 7 because they also have some “reality” program on at a different time. Or that I can’t attend a concert by a heavy metal or hard rock band because the same venue also hosts rap gigs which I’m not a fan of.

Should General Chat be a problem for anyone then simply ignore it.

That said, some potentially useful general economics stuff does come up in that part of the forum from time to time so I’ll continue keeping a watch on it.

Amen! :xyxthumbs

Those who want to see more posts in stock threads should post more in stock threads. I'm all for it and would like the company in there. Don't take your bat and ball and go home. Be an agent of change and do something about it.
