A Return of the 'Troubles'?

Has anyone else been following the situation in Northern Ireland? Two British soldiers and a policeman have been executed in the last week by IRA 'splinter groups'. So given the bleak outlook for the United Kingdom economy and a rise of unemployment in the region, will this lead to a return of the horrific 'troubles' in which thousands were killed the 1970s-1990s?

Another one of Tony Blair's 'achievements' is seemingly about the unravel.

A SECOND deadly attack on security forces in 48 hours has prompted warnings that Northern Ireland is on the verge of a return to violence.

The killing of a policeman dashed hopes that the weekend deaths of two British soldiers was a one-off, and stoked fears that Northern Ireland could be plunged back into the sectarian bloodshed which wracked the province for 30 years.

It also shows again how another minority group (the real ira) want to inflict their misguided, subhuman ideals, onto the majority (the people of northern ireland). They are simply a pathetic bunch of murderers. However, it seems that the majority (for now at least) are telling them to eff off.

Wait a minute - if we have had violence for many years, followed by peace for many years, and religion is the constant, then how can it be responsible?

If trouble is only starting to flare up again now, then something else is the variable.

And that variable is bored, frustrated young men who like to stir up **** - and there are more of them in a faltering economy with rising unemployment.

Religion is always the easy way of identifying sides in any conflict.

If the current situation is managed properly then it should have a positive effect on the peace process.
Neither side wants any of the past to be repeated (other than a small minority on both sides).

Religions got nothing to do with this and never did, its always been political. In the last few decades its been driven by criminals protecting turf in drug wars. Religion was just used as a convenient yet totally misleading way to differentiate between the two factions. People didnt start killing each other because they were Protestant or Catholic, they did it because they represented Colonial Britain or Republican Ireland, and its wrong to blame religion for what has been going on there since the days of the Norman Conquests.

These mongrels wont get any support - no-one wants a return to the bad old days. The main concern here is some turkey "retaliating" and more innocent people get killed. Lets hope they root the lot of them out and bring them to justice before anyone else gets hurt.

I can't see this carrying major economic implications, on the global scale its a nasty little storm in a teacup (unless of course you're related to the victims - no disrespect intended).
