I wondering if the purpose of the family court has run is race and should be disbanded now that Whitlam's aim for women's equality has been pretty much met and in probability exceeded? Of course taking away something like this would be like killing a sacred cow to many.

While men continue to abuse and misuse women the rest of us will just have to be punished I afraid.

Of course children want to be with their mum. I would have insisted my kids went with their mum in the event of marriage breakdown, but she obviously had good judgement in the first instance picking me as her mate.

This woman has made some pretty poor choices: she married an american, she had kids to a muslim, she allowed her kids to go to a war ravaged country, she engaged in counter kidnapping and now she's going to sign her rights away to get out of jail.

I'm guessing her husband knew what was going to happen and baited the crew into acting it out so he could get custody, money and fame. Rat cunning is not the preserve of the middle east, but it does have well honed skillsets.

That's a reasonable assumption. If he knew his former wife was in the country he could have put two and two together, and he knew the courts would be on his side.

I said the 60 minutes thing was a stunt, I don't disagree with your statement above.

He is in violation of Australian law and is therefore a criminal in the eyes of our law and if he returned here he would most likely be charged with a criminal offence.

No, trying to excuse a very serious criminal action in a foriegn Country by saying two wrongs make a right is ludicrous.
That is why we have a legal system, otherwise camera crews and cowboys would be running all over the place, right or wrong.
It is a sure way to descend into anarchy, when everyone circumvents the law and takes on vigilante style actions.

60 Minutes may well say that their intention was not to take the children away permanently but simply to let them see their mother again.

There would be some justification for those actions if the father had not allowed any contact.
