Looking for suggestions/recommendations for 24" LCD computer monitors. With so many choices out there it get's a bit confusing so if anyone has any personal experience with a model that they can recommend then please post details eg price and where from.

Basically looking for
1920 X 1200
1:1 ratio setting
price less than $900, preferably less than $600?

Something along the lines of the following maybe, $626 -

i bought my sister a asus 24 inch monitor part no-mk241h

i asked her what she wanted for her b'day- she said she wanted that as she is a graphics designer-she said it was really good-

high reso-very good for the gamer if u are one and she mention something about how quick it refreshe's- what ever that means

anyway-i paid $585 from memory in a melbounre computer shop and have seen them on ebay also for $595.00 +freight but decided not to get one off their just incase something goes wrong blah blah-

I ain't no computer guru-but i bet they all use the same screen from 1 maker and put their names on it-these screens these day are all the same i say unless u are picky-

Not all 24" LCDs are same. I have a Dell 24" Ultrasharp which costs more than a regular 24" LCD but is worth it. It also has tilt/swivel/rotate mount which not all LCDs have.
 
There is one that past my desk recently. A LG 24" LCD. retail is under $500 but not easy to find .....apparently.
Great clarity for me, but not sure on what your expectations are.
What ever you decide, make sure you see before you buy.
 
Samsung....surprisingly to many have a great reputation and are
considered one of the best monitor brands at the moment.

MSY is the cheapest place to buy anything computer related...Yes
u will have to stand in a cue....sometimes for quite a while.

Looks like they don't stock any 24" monitors.

I recently purchased a 22 incher for $313. About 4 years ago i bought a 19 incher for $599. Sheeesh the change in prices.

i did say same screen-not same features-

most of them have the lg screen pannel -this is what i was told by the computer guy i bought the screen off-

it makes sense-

dell-? are they a new computer mob or something-

Yeh i think most of them all have the same panel, and i think it is the same with the 17inch ultrasharp screens in laptops.

I've got the Dell ultrasharp 24inch at home. I bought it as an extra monitor when i purchased a laptop, so it was a great deal cheaper, but im not sure if it has the same warranty when purchased alone.
At work i use a 22inch, which is probably the perfect size for comfort. The 24inch i find is a bit too big for long hours sitting close to it, but it is great for watching media.

Id recommend the dell, unless you can find something with 2ms refresh rate. I know Asus 22inch screens have 2ms... which stops ghosting.
 
Bugger 24 inch, if you get down to Harvey Norman, you can secure yourself a 42 inch TV that will double up as a TV... I've set mine up with wireless mouse and keyboard and sit on the lounge doing my study and work....... Best purchase EVER.......

Depends what you use it for. Generally TVs have much poorer resolutions than monitors.
 

why stop at 42inch! get a projector

Can someone please explain why this "ultra sharp" feature is worth the extra money? it sounds like a marketing gimmick to me...

It probably is a marketing gimmick!

Ultrasharp screens are suppose to have a higher resolution i guess. 24inch computer screens have a higher resolution than any TV on the market. I think all 24inch screens are 1900x1200, so im not to sure what the difference is between an ultrasharp and a normal flat panel one... possibly the inputs like HDMI, DVI and VGA etc..
The Samsung 42inch 1080 TVs are crap for sports, but the Sony Bravias are fantastic. This is probably to do with the refresh rate, and clarity. both have the same resolution, but to me sony's seem sharper.



looking at 17inch laptop screens the 17inch ultrasharp screens are also 1900x1200 which is very impressive!
 
I have a 42inch plasma, Panasonic Viera.

Very good for sports and games...
 
Im not sure what monitor you should get.
However I have a Viewsonic, and it does the trick! Very sharp and fast response time (2ms).

I've had this widescreen 22" Dell for a year and very happy with it, very sharp

After this and others' comments I would feel fairly comfortable ordering a Dell monitor without seeing it first.

Otherwise definitely want to see before buying... my brother got a Samsung 22 a few months ago and it's a bit blurry.. would drive me nuts.

I do find with a few indicator windows etc. open at the bottom of the screen in MT4 for example, I really miss the extra screen height of a 24" when drawing trendlines etc.
 
I would check out graysonline auctions.. I got a new HP desktop for about $400 with 22inc screen which is a ripper screen I am using on my computer now and put the dell one back on the hP its a bit slower computer.. but the dell monitor has been good too... you can pick up 2nd hand dell monitors ex government for $40...
 

I started looking at 22" then saw that 24" were within the budget, but I guess the next question is, is a 24" too big for a trading screen or just get 2 X 22's? or the bigger the better? Not looking for a TV, looking for a computer monitor first, with potential for Hi-def video playback after hours etc.

The more I look into it the more confused I get ie all sorts of screen types and hence the different prices eg Eizo. So looking for a good 24" compromise, but must be excellent computer monitor first & foremost.
