2013 AFL Finals Tipping

Round 3 update. Bookies rapidly shortening Fremantle's odds. Geelong were a bit stiff.
Hawks vs the Dockers in the GF next week.

I too feel sorry for the Cats; given how wasteful the Hawks were in their kicking at goal, they would've deserved to win just as much.
Tonight's game offered a lot more spectacle - from both sides. It's quite understandable that Ross Lyon was disappointed by his team's fade-out in the final quarter. But then again, who can blame the players when they wanted to avoid any unnecessary stress and injuries, rather make sure they're in good shape for the GF.

For that game, I go against the odds and tip Fremantle to take the Cup.

For those of you that think Geelong deserved to win the statistics say otherwise. Hawthorn were deserved winners and would have been unlucky had they lost. Hawks were ahead on all the key indicators and added to this kicked 4.8 to 1.1 in the last quarter. Can't see how anyone can say Geelong deserved to win

Surprised also that people enjoyed Saturday night's match more than the Hawthorn Geelong match. I can tell you that those of us at the MCG on Friday night were riveted and I don't think I have ever been to a better match in my life, it was real edge of the seat high quality intense stuff. The Swans Freo match on the other hand was over by half time and I turned it off before it finished.

So to the Grand Final... Hawthorn for me ;)

Hawks for me.

Hodge needs to get his head bandaged early on in the game, then he plays well. Not sure why, but it happens a lot. Rioli and Buddy are confidence players, so probably need to get into the swing of it early as well. Gunston seems to do ok no matter what. Hill can surprise at times around the forward line. Smith can run and carry. Hale is a great target up forward if Bud and Rio decide to go quiet.

Hawthorn for mine.

On Talking Footy last night, 3 out of 4 panellists tipped Fremantle. They are a formidable team, and won't quit.

For the Hawks the memory of last year is still painful. They will bleed for their club, and I wouldn't want to be in Ryan Crowley's shoes on Saturday. Look for a fiery first quarter.

In the VFL, the Box Hill Hawks got home, and I think on Saturday it will be Hawthorn by 10 points.

A bit off topic, but at last someone gives credit to the father of the current game.

He entered the competition with a raw team, but a great game plan.
The team didn't have the skill to enact the plan, but the other teams adopted it.
Gerard Neesham should be given recognition, for moving Aussie rules from bomb it long, to use the ball well.

Alot of purple descending on the state.
Supposedly its been hard for some supporters to get to Melbourne with the airlines being all full, having to go via Sydney etc.

The weather was glorious during the week, until Thursday, then they wouldnt even have to kick the ball, it was so windy. I dont mind rain but the wind ...

Clearing showers predicted for today, with a top of 17.

I dont really care who wins, may the best team win.
I have picked Fremantle to win today.

Congratulations Miss Hale!

Joe Medallist in a Premiership year, doesn't get much better than that. The Hawks were deserved winners, but Freo will be back. The Hawthorn recruiting staff will be happy, with Brian Lake getting the Norm Smith Medal.

Agree Logique, and thanks for running the competition, well done.

Congratulations Miss Hale, and enjoy celebrating Hawthorns win.

Another season over, its been an interesting one.

Thanks Logique and Tink, and thanks from me too Logique for running the comp :)

I am having a great time, my feet haven't touched the ground since 5pm on Saturday afternoon :D

Seems certain to be Buddy-less Hawthorn next year Miss Hale, but I think you've got it covered.

Look out next year if Fremantle kick straight.

To Joe, thanks again for the thread.

Big pre-season everybody, and we'll see how we go in 2014.

Congratz Miss Hale and the Hawks; Brian Lake and far greater kicking accuracy got them over the line.

Ever since I was involved in their formation, I've had a soft spot for the Dockers - second only to West Coast. That's why I tipped with my heart, although I knew in my head that Freo would probably repeat the Eagles' destiny and lose their first GF. (Still have the 1oz .999 proof silver medal from that event.)
But they'll be back next year - just like the Eagles in '82.

Buddy to Swans 2014.

Miss Hale, I had nothing to do with it, honest. I wouldn't have minded if it had been GWS.

Really sad about this :( Did not want Buddy to leave because he is such a part of Hawthorn and it's like losing a member of your family. I don't actually think it will affect us adversely in the long run however.

Can I ask Logique, as a Swans supporter are you happy/excited to get Buddy?

Some misgivings, it's a lot of money and a 9 year contract, but Andrew Ireland has the runs on the board as a recruiter.

We'll be less Tippett-centric that's for sure. Jesse White looks likely to go to Collingwood, so Buddy fills that roaming tall half forward role. Players like Buddy don't come along too often, so I think Sydney supporters will be excited by this, and take a 'club knows best' attitude.

Not sure where Sam Reid now sits in the scheme of things, he might be sent down back.

And we'll get clobbered again about the dreaded cost of living allowance.
