Welcome footy fans!

Joe has consented to creation of this thread, where we will compete for the medal named in his honour, the Joe Medal. Tips by Friday 7:00 pm EST please. Late entrants - start from the lowest progressive score.
Well done last year JTLP and Tink, the 2012 season joint medallists.

2013 Finals Round 1-
Hawthorn vs Sydney - (not you again)
Geelong vs Fremantle - (directions needed to Simonds Stadium)
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide - (wearing different jumpers we hope)
Richmond vs Carlton - (possible upset of the first round)

Some tips already received:
Tink -
Hawthorn
Geelong
Carlton
Collingwood

Logique -
Hawthorn
Geelong
Collingwood
Carlton

Pixel -
Sydney - Hawks could be vulnerable without Buddy; should be much closer than last weekend
Freo - especially if it's as "spiteful" as Chris Scott suggests
Port
Richmond

Miss Hale -
Hawthorn
Freo
Port
Richmond

Pavilion103 -
Hawks
Cats
Pies
Tigers

IFocus -
Sydney
Freo
Pies
Richmond

Wow don't Freo look good, and as for the Pies, they needn't worry about the 6 day break now. Great weekend for the purists.

Near miraculous to get 3 right in Round 1, well done Miss Hale.

I also think Carlton can get over the line against the Swans;
Geelong should have learned their lesson and beat Port at the Gee.
(Funny they don't have a home game at Simonds this time :p: )

Can't tip against the Swannies at home, Goodes looks a likely inclusion. Wish it was at the SCG though.
Geelong were stung last week, and might take it out on Port.

Round 2:
- Geelong
- Sydney

GB and Duckman, no problems with late entry, will start you from Round 1 = 1 win.

Surely the Swans will get over Carlton, the great pretenders, and much as I'd love to see Port win I think the Cats will be too good (Port not without a chance though).

Geelong
Sydney

Round 2 summary.

Not going to be easy next week, with Geelong vs Hawthorn, and Freo vs Swans.

I've been thinking the two teams with a 2-week break should have the edge.
And then McVeigh ran the Blues into the ground...
Can he do the same in Subi? Or could someone like Hayden Ballantyne clip his wings?

How do the grounds compare by size?
We know that Subi is the biggest ground of them all, Sydney's the smallest. But I was intrigued to find that the ANZ "Stadium Australia" is considerably longer than the SCG, albeit still 11m shorter and 4m narrower than Patersons.
Courtesy http://www.redandwhiteonline.com, these are the dimensions of all AFL stadiums:
Measurements are from goal to goal and boundary to boundary:

Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) 147m x 136m
Colonial Stadium - Melbourne 159m x 130m
Football Park - Adelaide 165m x 133m
Wollongabba Cricket Ground (the "Gabba") - Brisbane 160m x 139m
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) - Melbourne 160m x 139m
Optus Oval - Melbourne 160m x 139m
Manuka Oval - Canberra 164m x 136m
Subiaco - Perth 170m x 122m
York Park - Launceston 165m x 135m
Baytec Stadium - Geelong 169m x 115m
Stadium Australia - Sydney 159m x 118m

Therefore, I'll better wait a few days with my tip for next weekend, till I know who will be playing, whose injuries will keep them sidelined, and who - if any - is going to be rubbed out for indiscretions such as Chappy's bump.

Saturday's weather in Perth is forecast to be awful: high winds and pouring rain.
That makes me favour Fremantle.

The other game is a bit harder: with Buddy returning, I wonder if the Hawks' front line might get in each others way. On the other hand, Chapman's ban could make the Cats even more determined to win.

My tip for the Grand Final is Geelong vs Fremantle.

Chapman out gives the Hawks an extra boost. Hawks have the momentum + two returning All-Australian stars.
Freo in Freo.

So, Hawks and Freo for me thanks.

Yes hard to pick this week, Logique.

After last weeks game, I think Sydney have a few injuries and playing over in the West.
- Fremantle for me.

The other game is abit harder, Hawthorn have the rest, but Geelong seems to have that voodoo over Hawthorn, I wonder if Hawthorn can break it.
- Geelong for me.

Well Hawthorn finally broke the Kennett Curse, not being able to beat Geelong since 2008. Well done.

Felt sorry for Geelong at the end, always enjoy watching them play, when they are on fire, watch out.

I too feel sorry for the Cats; given how wasteful the Hawks were in their kicking at goal, they would've deserved to win just as much.
Tonight's game offered a lot more spectacle - from both sides. It's quite understandable that Ross Lyon was disappointed by his team's fade-out in the final quarter. But then again, who can blame the players when they wanted to avoid any unnecessary stress and injuries, rather make sure they're in good shape for the GF.

For that game, I go against the odds and tip Fremantle to take the Cup.

Agree, Pixel.

I thought Geelong played better throughout the game and deserved to win, but thats footy. Until the siren, nothing matters.

Fremantle playing at the MCG may be their only downfall, but I will pick Fremantle too.
