2012 election, is it a realistic possibility?

It does look like she will pull an election if her leadership is challenged. She didn't give Rudd a chance - gave him undying support until the day she knifed him but will do "whatever it takes" to remain in power herself.

And all these unfunded promises will be easy to backflip - just blame the liberal states. I don't think there is any guarantee that any of her promises would actually be implemented if she got back in.

If anything, I think she is trying to get Abbott to make a "me too" policy knowing there isn't enough money and he would have to backflip OR she is trying to trap him into negative statements about her unfunded policy "promises" so she can screech vitriol at him for not caring. Hopefully, the electorate at large will see through her silly political stunts.

You might be right on this. Hopefully he'll not do it. He has enough extravagant policies of his own.

Gillard seems to spend future money left right and centre without secured funding except maybe for more borrowing, probably only to have an argument before election that bad Tony will scrap it.

As to early election, I cannot see it coming unless a month or few weeks earlier because most probably three fellas and Labor will not have the same opportunity again.

So why knowingly move out of the lodge earlier, or have the pay-packet reduced by not being elected at all?

After watching Swan on the news, I would say an early election is on the cards. Seeing him try and look smug and composed as everything is turning to manure.
IT tells me that they know the proverbial is going to hit the fan and an early election is their only hope.
