Could the whole early election thing be Julia Gillard's defence against her own party on the basis of that it looks like moving against her as leader, she'll bring the whole show down ?
Can her own party trust her any more with her promises than the electorate ?

It does look like she will pull an election if her leadership is challenged. She didn't give Rudd a chance - gave him undying support until the day she knifed him but will do "whatever it takes" to remain in power herself.
And all these unfunded promises will be easy to backflip - just blame the liberal states. I don't think there is any guarantee that any of her promises would actually be implemented if she got back in.
If anything, I think she is trying to get Abbott to make a "me too" policy knowing there isn't enough money and he would have to backflip OR she is trying to trap him into negative statements about her unfunded policy "promises" so she can screech vitriol at him for not caring. Hopefully, the electorate at large will see through her silly political stunts.
