My rain gauge indicated 35mm to 9 am.

Ex cyclone Ita is now a rain depression and could be some 100 km east of Townsville by 12 noon Sunday...if this the case it could once again intensity and redevelop once back over the open waters.

We are expecting a drenching tonight...............don't mind the rain.....the wind is the worry

Yeah ...been busy today.....stayed in doors because of the rain.

Much ado about nothing. Ita turns out to be a pussy-cat. Probably not one dog will suffer PTSD.

Calliope, it is raining cats and dogs here in Townsville ATM with wind gusts around 100 km per hour...sure it is only now a Category one...it is currently about 100 km north of Townsville at 6 am and moving SSE.

It will about 30 km east of Townsville at noon today.

Calliope, have you ever experienced being in a cyclone?...Where do you live?

I have been through 3 in Townsville including Althea in 1971 and one in Fiji in 1992 named Joahnie.

Category 4 cyclones are frightening believe me.....The wind is like an F18 super hornet taking off.....a lot louder than a Jumbo jet...We can handle a category one even a category 2, but after that it is not very nice at all...trust me.

We had 35 mm up to 9 am Saturday and 140mm to 8am this morning.

Things are quiet ATM and I believe we may be in the eye of the cyclone.....this often leads people into a false sense of security and they tend to start venturing out outdoors but I believe it will whip again in an hour or so....There has been some local flooding in Townsville according to TV reports.

Otherwise all is well.

The eye has just passed south of Townsville. Last bit of wind getting up again. Bruce Highway cut at AllIgator Ck. just south of TSV.

Birds have started tweeting again, so I guess we are safe now.

Calliope, have you ever experienced being in a cyclone?...Where do you live?

Yes. Forty years ago Brisbane was hit by Cyclone Wanda and a huge storm surge. Our house went under water and we lost everything. Luckily we were in a War Service Loan home and were fully insured...the only house in the street to have flood insurance.

Fourteen people died, at least 6,700 homes were inundated and there was $980 million ($8.1 billion in 2014 terms) of damage after the swollen Brisbane river surged through the city on Sunday January 27.

The flooding came after near-record rainfall over the wet summer, which was topped off by torrential falls from January 23, caused by Tropical Cyclone Wanda.

Between January 24 and 29, central Brisbane alone received an enormous 650 millimetres of rain.

Also by a strange coincidence we happened to be in Darwin visiting my brother for Xmas the same year, 1974, when Cyclone Tracy flattened Darwin including my brother's house. 65 people were killed and 70% of houses were severely damage or destroyed. It was the most traumatic experience of our lives.

Yes noco, I have experienced being in a cyclone. I think I can comment on cyclones with some experience.

How many houses were flooded, how many houses were flattened, how many people were killed by Cyclone Ita in Townsville where you live? This is the measure of a cyclone, in a metropolitan area.
