The single most decisive factor why you will vote for who you do

Just because I love proving people wrong.

And I repeat for the 10th time that I am not absolving ALP of blame, merely that LNP deserve a lot more blame since the bubble grew most under their watch, and they failed to do anything about it - but rather actively encouraged it.

Arguably true that the full effects can't be assessed in advance for this or any other policy.

But to use an analogy, it ought to be fairly obvious that jumping out of a perfectly good plane (without a parachute) does not improve your chances of survival under any reasonably foreseeable circumstance. Your jumping to an almost certain death will do nothing to help the survival prospects of yourself or other passengers even in the event that the plane really does crash upon landing.

A much smarter move would be to direct your efforts into properly assessing the condition of the plane and, if a problem is found, working out how to get the plane on the ground with the minimum of risk. Jumping out simply isn't a good move. :2twocents

Well I respect your point of view and agree with it to an extent. Jumping out of a plane may not be a good move, but then again maybe there is no good move and never will be. This way at least we get the thrill of free-falling to the ground. Yay us.

There were mitigating factors in Germany making it an exception, particularly in the East (Strong hint for you there).

I would sure would like to have seen policies to divert capital into more productive avenues. But in reality, the fact of the RE bubble was no more the responsibility of LNP than Mickey Mouse.

Sorry, your ideological bias is blinding you. I'd be looking at the prevailing economic theory emanating from The Fed more than anything.

Yes there were. Need I name them? Free market in land. 40% upfront deposit requirement. No negative gearing. No FHOG. Strong rental protection laws.

It is our federal government's responsibility to remove negative gearing and all other tax concessions for speculation and institute a significant deposit % of loan requirement. It is also the Federal government's responsibility to pressure the states into doing their share - or if they fail, to call a referendum on the relevant changes to our constitution to ensure that we get a free market in land.

Our federal government has failed, and continues to fail. It will continue to fail if LNP is elected.

They do not blind me, I simply unlike you reserve the right to hold our politicians accountable over their failures.

What then do you suggest as the alternative ?

I highly doubt one single year of rises above inflation (2011) by just a couple of percent on the back of criminally low interest rates from the ECB as well as money printing constitutes a housing bubble. And this is one major reason why the Germans are correctly critical of recent ECB actions. Needless to say this will not continue in the German utopia.

My alternative is in the text I said which you quoted in that very post.

Unless you mean political alternative for Australians, in which case it is not not vote for either LNP or ALP as they have both shown to be part of the corrupt politico-housing complex.

In answer to the OP:

It's funny how some politicians are quick to point to an opinion poll which says 80% (or whatever other large number they choose) support one of their policies whilst remaining silent when a poll shows a large % opposing a different policy of theirs. Either you support doing what the people want or you don't...

I haven't visited here for a while, and I am mildly surprised at the amount of replies.

Leadership seems to be the common wish amongst us. Let's look outside politics - who out there could prove to be a good leader for the country, a person who can connect with the people? An industrialist like Lindsay Fox? Someone with a military background like Cosgrove? A respected educator, or scientist, or community leader?

Who would be your ideal Prime Minister?
