Newt Gingrich next President of the USA

I doubt that the republican committee will support Newt Gingrich for president. He has already demonstrated character flaws much more serious than any recent president, including Bill Clinton; and he is on record as a recipient of large amounts of money from the very institutions he has lectured that should be dismantled. I would vote for any candidate the democratic party nominates rather than Newt.

Mitt Romney is the current front runner, acceptable to most republicans, and without serious character flaws.

Ron Paul has some great ideas, but many call for both extreme and rapid changes in the organization of government. Even if these are in the best interest of the country, they will hurt much of the established structure. He does not have strong support from within the republican party. I doubt that they would nominate him. If he runs as an independent, he will divert votes away from the republican candidate more than the democratic candidate -- perhaps insuring a democratic president. But so many people have so much to lose if he is elected that there will be overwhelming support for anyone-but-Paul and he will not win.

After reading about and listening to each of the candidates, Jon Huntsman seems to me to be the best qualified. He has remained in the race, holding only single-digit support in most polls, but is increasing his campaigning as the primary elections near. Some convincing results in early primaries and caucuses could improve his chances.

Thanks for listening,
Howard

South Carolina Primary (Republican)

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

My contacts in the Carolinas tell me that his odds have considerably shortened.

This is due in no small part to a despicable sexist attack on Newt by the left liberal media as he went through a debate prior to the Primary vote.

As is often the case, it rebounded when he admirably stood up for himself, and it has re-ignited his campaign.

My contacts at Bob Jones University tell me that the godbotherers will be backing Newt Gingrich in South Carolina.

It won't even be close.

Romney is gone.

The AFP tells me;

NEWT Gingrich is tipped to score an upset win in the pivotal Republican primary in South Carolina, in a result that may turn the race upside down

It is strange. Romney is distrusted because he is a Mormon and yet he has only ever had one wife and Gingrich has had at least three.

Do either Romney or Gingrich represent a threat to Obama? I don't have a specific reason for saying this, but Gingrich just has a sort of shifty air about him.

Yeah, I feel the same. I don't really trust either of them. They are politicians I guess..

I suppose the right wingers in America want a right wing candidate that's a Christian, Romney is a Mormon...Gingrich comes across as human, Romney comes across as a well scripted pretty boy.

I cant see either of them beating Obama, but then i cant see Tony beating Julia...the US political right is in just as much trouble as the Australian right. :2twocents

Pretty funny the god botherers voting for a guy who spent the '90's screwing his very catholic mistress while criticising Clinton over lewinsky. Of course that's leaving aside his $300.000 fine for ethical violations in the '90s.

My contacts at Vero Beach, Fla. tell me that Romney is on the nose in their little part of heaven.

If Gingrich and Romney are the only 2 candidates the Republicans are taking seriously, then Obama will storm home. Not that it matters, neither would be any better than Obama anyway...

There is only person who could mount a decent challenge against Obama, and it is extremely unlikely that he will be the Republican candidate.
