Curious as how to keep my emails on my mail server, so I can have all my emails sent to/and my old emails stored on my web-mail also. I have my email setup as an imap account.

I had outlook and webmail setup fine on my laptop, then I tried to setup Outlook on my PC, then all my emails from my webmail and laptop were purged, and are now all on my PC, I would like all my emails to be restored on my laptop and web-mail!

I've tried following these steps from the net:

"1.On the TOOLS menu, click ACCOUNT SETTINGS.
2.Under NAME, select the POP3 e-mail account that you want, and click CHANGE.
3.Click MORE SETTINGS.
4.Click ADVANCED TAB, under DELIVERY, select the LEAVE A COPY OF MESSAGES ON THE SERVER check box. "

I can't see any "delivery" tab however, any help would be appreciated!

nb: isp is internode.

Delete the email account and set it up as IMAP as opposed to POP3. IMAP keeps the messages on the server as well as keeps track of whether the message has been read or replied to. Creating an IMAP account will create a new set of folders down the left hand side as the messages are kept on the server they don't use the global inbox that POP3 emails would use. Once you've got the IMAP account set up drag and drop the emails from the global inbox to the inbox on the IMAP account and it'll move the messages back to the server.

you dont have to use imap to leave messages on the server, there is an option to keep messages on the server when using POP. POP wont keep track of which messages were read however. As far as getting the messages back onto the mail server you will have to ask internode to restore your mailbox prior to you downloading and deleting them off the server or email the messages back to yourself.

I believe once you have download your messages off the server there gone. Only way to do it is to re-send it all to yourself using a dummy yahoo account hope were not talking gigs for mail here.

For POP3 that'd be right, for IMAP you can move messages between folders and put them back just as if they were stored on your computer in Outlook.

No you don't have to use IMAP but as you've said, POP3 doesn't keep track of what has been read and what hasn't. If the server supports IMAP (which Internode do and the OP says he was using) then IMAP is the best option to keep the messages on the server and make sense of what was read.

Thanks for the replies so far. My email account was set up as an imap one, however when I go to the settings I still see no "keep on server" option (see pic.), luckily is only 50 odd emails, annoying still nonetheless.

I know I can get my emails back to the server, as this problem has occurred before, but someone else sorted it out for me then, so was unaware what they did previously.

If it's already set up as IMAP then there is no keep mail on the server option as that is what IMAP does.

To get the emails back on the server drag them from the global inbox into the inbox under the IMAP account. If you're still having troubles PM me.
