New Watch

I'm seriously considering purchasing a new watch,a bit of bling.
I really like the look of the Omega Seamaster Planet ocean big chunky in your face sorta watch and wondering what peoples thoughts are on different brands and experiences they have had in owning a more upmarket watch.

I would think that the decision would come down to design and style rather than durability as my dad has a 14 year old $50 watch! Personally, I like Tag Heuer and have found that generally the ones that I find most stylish are their most expensive watch. That being said I think one of the more pricey ones that I had my eye on was a touch over 4000.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. In all honesty there is no different really between a nice 100 watch and a 5000 watch. Unless you take into account the fact that you'll want to be more careful with the $5000 watch and opposed to the $100 watch. That being said, none of it matters at the end of the day so you may as well buy the watch you want!

One of the boys here at work has an Omega. He has had problems with the perptual motion because sitting at a desk it doesnt get 'charged' enough. Not sure if that is common across the range though

Personally im going to be getting myself a Raymond Weil as an xmas present to myself

I've always liked Tissot. Can be elegant\flashy but not ridiculously overpiced. Have never had a problem with them.

If that's your budget look online for watches in Hong Kong or Singapore. You might find that you can get the same watch + holiday on the same budget.

I've always liked Tissot. Can be elegant\flashy but not ridiculously overpiced. Have never had a problem with them.

Second the Tissot. Some very nice watches in their current range and you won't have to spend $5K!

Bulova Precisionist Champlain for me if you want a decent watch that will go the distance both underwater and never give any hassles. 300m dive watch that should set you back about $600. YEP .... SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. Spend the rest on a holiday.

I've always wondered who needs a watch that can sustain 300m pressure....

88m is the free diving record, although the world record for scuba dive is 330m

Dunno skc? I have had several DIVE WATCH'S that have had condensation in them from a swimming pool previously. Something to do with the rapid water temperature change I was told. EDOX DELFIN 200m was the culprit in the shower. Still functions when I go diving and no condensation but the moment it goes near hot water in the shower ..... different altogether.

Yeah it had entered my thoughts but go on a 9 and 5 roster in the new year so time is the hard part plus get sick of bloody airports!

A quick scan of the net and you see cheaper by 1k to 2k in KL more confused than ever aaaaargh!

I have owned a Tissot myself; got it as a graduation gift and liked it a lot. After about 35 years, the automatic (motion-induced) wind-up stopped working, and rather than spending a shipload of $$ to replace the internals, I decided an el-cheapo battery-driven would do as well. Am meanwhile on my 4th of those - and am having second thoughts after all.
Should have kept my late father's Junghans. After more than 50 years, it's still going like the proverbial clockwork; but I handed it down to my son, who cherishes it as a "family heirloom".

I don't believe the Junghans marque is still around, which means I'd probably go back to Tissot. 35 years from now, it's unlikely I'll have much use for a watch anyway. Probably a harp, or more likely a fire poker.

PS: Hey! I was wrong. Junhans still exist.

My favorite watch was a $5 Cartier fake, purchased in Chiang-Mai, Thailand.

Not really being a watch man, I never bought it to show off, just cause it looked so nice, but it fooled people who should have known better, I would usually set them straight, then they would act a bit miffed.

Got nicked over 10 years ago and i'm still p!ssed
