Wikileaks, driven by Julian Assange, a local from Maggie Island here in NQ has confirmed in my mind what a collection of doped, sleazebags, addicts, nutters and sex offenders lead the nations of this world.

Apart from NSW which will soon get a massive clean out , Australia and NZ seem to be clear of this bacchanalian anality.

Let us as beacons of democracy and enlightenment, lead the world out of this mess.

The first thing we need to do is to get out of Afghanistan and let the godbotherers there inflict maximum damage on each other.

gg if you're talking about the least corrupt countries, the top three are pretty much always New Zealand, Finland and Denmark. Australia does not even feature in the next nine 'least corrupt'.

Most corrupt is Somalia.

So I doubt we can depend on Australia to lead the world out of corrupt practices. Just look at our federal and state governments for a start.
 
Julia, do you have a list of current least\maximum corrupt countries? I'm far too lazy to google that.

In principle I don't have an arguement with a wiki leak web sight. What irks me though is Julian comes across as trying to save the world from 'all things secretive' yet seems to only be doing this to the states. What about leaking some saudi files, kuwait, singapore and chinese files?
 
Gordon, no, I don't. I knew about the best three countries, and Somalia being the most corrupt following a program on Radio National.
It will take you about a minute to google it.

Eh, Australia is ranked 8th in Corruption Perceptions Index, ranked from least corrupt.
 
Perception is rather different from actuality, I suppose.

How do you define rogering the barmaid down the lane by the golf course, getting snotted by the hubby and then denying you ever rogered her?
 
I suppose it's unsurprising that the most corrupt countries are those which are ravaged by war and civil unrest.

Most of us, probably having never known utter desperation and persecution, can't understand how one's principles can be cast aside in the need for survival.

Corruption and war/violent crime don't always go hand in hand... I feel much safer wandering the streets of Moscow after dark than I do sometimes in Perth's CBD...

Workers must 'volunteer' for Christmas or face big fines

WHAT does it mean to volunteer to work on Christmas Day? For some there does not appear to be much of a choice.

Workers at Gippsland's large Maryvale Mill could be fined up to $6600 each if they do not ''volunteer'' to work on Christmas and Boxing Day after a Fair Work Australia order that failure to do so would be an illegal strike.

That was despite the workers and their employer, Australian Paper, having a collective agreement that stated work on those days ''shall be on a voluntary basis'' only.


Commissioner Wayne Blair ordered that employees at the Latrobe Valley site ''must proceed to work as normal'', which included ''volunteering'' to work on those days if it was the ''custom and practice'' to do so.

Failure to do so would be unprotected industrial action, which carries fines of up to $6600 for workers.

Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union pulp and paper secretary Alex Millar said the order came after an Australian Paper application, which he said claimed a lack of volunteers was a form of industrial action. The union was considering an appeal.

Mr Millar said he could not understand the definition of ''voluntary'' used by Fair Work Australia, which the union challenged in the tribunal by quoting from the Oxford Dictionary. ''I'm amazed, quite frankly,'' he said.

Bigger cowards than bailed-out bankers these complaining ****ers! :D

OK. But maybe don't become a journalist in Russia. Seems to be a somewhat fraught occupation there.

"Mr Millar said 207 out of 535 workers volunteered to work on the two days and would be paid a special rate of $128 an hour." :eek:
