It would appear that Trey Parker and Matt Stone's South Park has insulted some extremists.

The brilliant comedy satire it would appear has "insulted their prophet" and they now face a possible Theo Van Gogh end, via assassination.

IT is obvious that these people get quite upset and murderous when their prophet is portrayed visually and particularly if he is satirised.

He initially appeared disguised in a bear suit.

So why don't they just not watch South Park, instead of threatening to murder people.

They really are quite mad.

The below is from the SMH.

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment...fiant-over-mohammed-sketch-20100423-tgam.html

Comedy Central's South Park included a representation of the Prophet Mohammed as a character this week despite a radical Muslim group's warning that its producers could be killed.

Mohammed appeared on Wednesday night's US episode of the cartoon with his body obscured by a black box, since Muslims consider a physical representation of their prophet to be blasphemous.

Last week, the character was believed to be disguised in a bear costume. When that same costume was removed this week, Santa Claus appeared.

The bear costume had angered the New York-based group Revolution Muslim, which posted a message on its website saying that producers Trey Parker and Matt Stone had insulted their prophet.

The message included a gruesome picture of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker murdered by a Muslim extremist in 2004 after making a movie about a woman who rejected Mohammed's teachings. The message said the South Park producers would "probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh" for airing the show.

The posting included Comedy Central's New York address, as well as the address for Parker and Stone's California production studio.

The postmodern free world needs to take a stand against this insanity masquerading as belief and transcendence.

The prophet Muhammad appeared in a South Park epidsode nearly 10 years ago without controversy or death threats. I wonder what makes this one much worse? Maybe I should go watch this recent episode to find out :)

Death threats etc are almost always blown up sensationalism by the media. Do not believe them. There is a Muslim women who is very un-orthodox views who according to them media has been getting "death threats" and is "fearing for her security" anyway she was in Sydney the other month and during an interview laughed at such accusations saying that has never happened. Yet her wiki page still echos the same rhetoric and I expect the next time she makes the news it will be in there somewhere.

Back to south park; I am Muslim by the way and I haven't seen the episode because I don't watch rubbish. Personally I think that insulting someones culture, language, gender, religion, sexual preference, disability, education, etc for cheap laughs is just sick and immature.

I agree, now let's all grow up and enslave our women, and ensure no one ever lays eyes on them. That's progress and maturity which makes sense!

Speaking of insulting other peoples' culture, let's enforce a ban on eating ham in public, because eating ham is an insult to other cultures and we wouldn't want to seem intolerant, would we now? No no no...

It is called social commentary and it is a common comedic tool. The fact that you find it insulting is purely a personal judgement on your part.

Mmmm lets dredge up a few stereotypes shall we.

The West has done such a great job of empowering women too. Anorexia anyone?

That pretty much means no jokes at all. No jokes about pants half way down bums (rap culture), no jokes about American racists a la Borat (racism is a redneck culture) etc etc. It also leads to intolerance of the criticism of cultures, so criticising genital mutilation is wrong and criticising oppression of women is wrong simply because that is part of someone's culture.

The following quote is from Salman Rushdie and agree with him all the way on this.

The idea of the sacred is quite simply one of the most conservative notions in any culture, because it seeks to turn other ideas - uncertainty, progress, change - into crimes”

This is AUSTRALIA, we watch what we want when we want, if you don't like it then there is a plane (or boat) back to where you came from.

If the place you came from is not good enough for you to live in then why attempt to uphold and impose it's draconian attitudes on the modern (and civilised) society you have chosen to live in.

Does the term FIFO ring a bell ?

Thanks that is why I reserve the right not to watch TV shows like southpark. Its a freedom I enjoy!

There is no airport in Penrith. I suppose I could catch a boat up the Hawkesbury... oh you mean where my ancestors came from which ones? The English or the Irish?

Actually I am not insulted because I haven't seen it.
But you are right it is purely personal judgment on my part that is why I said "Personally I think that... "

How else are you going to get a cheap laugh?

btw, if you want to feel really insulted, check out Encyclopedia Dramatica, bought to my attention by another ASF poster.

I showed this site to a friend of mine, who has expressed many racist, mysoginist etc views.

He was appalled..hehe

Give me a break. Anorexia is not enforced on anyone, or even promoted, and it affects males too. Sharia law says women must be treated as unseen slaves (women must cover up, women must obey their husbands, rape within marriage is perfectly legal, etc etc etc etc). Any western woman can eat more food than is good for her if she chooses to. Western culture hasn't overcome all the problems with the sexes, and currently women are making things worse for themselves, but that's a cultural problem, and certainly not a severe problem which an extremist group wish to enforce upon all women according to a set of extremist laws.

Heck, Muslims accusing someone else of intolerance is the pot calling the kettle black. Have you read their doctrine? The Koran says (the Muslims' holy book/doctrine, equivalent of the bible) directly states such gems as "The Jews are the enemy of Islam".

As was I when I looked it up to discover it is NSFW. :cautious:

Cheers

Have you read their doctrine? The Koran says (the Muslims' holy book/doctrine, equivalent of the bible) directly states such gems as "The Jews are the enemy of Islam".

The Old Testament is full of such statements.

I am an atheist and stay clear of all these mindless ancient texts.

Not a fan of stereotypes though.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Christians or Jews. The Jews for example believe that anyone who isn't a Jew needs to either die or become the slave of a Jew - it is in their doctrine (the old testament of the bible). Quite amusing that they too are pots calling the kettle black and complaining about persecution, when their own proud history includes the Jews committing genocide for reasons such as "Those people aren't Jews" or "God wants us to commit genocide and wipe these people out so that we get practice and can more effectively commit genocide again later". Ironic (poetic justice?) that they would later become the victims of the most famous case of genocide in human history.

....and no, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend Nazis either, just as I wasn't trying to defend the Jews.

I also refuse to take advise on sexual behavior from an 80 year old virgin who lives in the Vatican (I assume you're in the same boat). Progress huh?

Lol; especially when he teaches the 'virtue' of abstinence? Sex is good and the more of it the better for society.

Luckily I can have my pleasures in life without needing to pray afterwards .
